Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone out there has experienced anything similar to my situation. I'm currently 33 weeks and have been having pain in the upper right side of my abdomen for a few months. It is not unbearable but at times very unpleasant, always there but sometimes less noticeable than others. A few nights ago I stretched my arms above my head as I was waking and felt a 'popping' sensation in that exact spot, very painful but subsided to almost the usual level of pain quickly. Now there appears to be a round 'shadow' in that area - maybe 10cm in diameter and very feint, though both my husband and I can clearly see it. Though the area is a little more sore than before, it is still not unbearable so I'm assuming its probably not really cause for concern, it is only the slight shadow that has me wondering if it might be an issue. Bub is moving as normal. Thanks in advance for any help! original.gif

ASk the GP or OB about it.
It might be nothing, but I'd see a GP about it to be sure.

I would be getting myself checked out.

Upper right abdominal pain can be associated with HELLP eclampsia.

http://www.aapec.org.au/Pre-Eclampsia/10_HELLP.php

My sister had HELLP eclampsia. Didn't swell, didn't have headaches ( just feeling meh) BP didn't climb until the last day (ended up with emerg premmie CS). No protein in urine. Ended up having eclamtic seizures in way to OR. So just saying even if you don't have prominent signs ask for blood tests including liver function to rule it out. We almost lost both my sister and bubs.

Hmmm ok thanks isolabella, I did disregard hellp as I don't seem to completely fit the symptoms but there's no harm in being cautious and getting checked is there? Glad to hear your sister and her bub were lucky enough to pull through!

I dont know anything about the shadow, but I had upper right quadrant pain on my first day home with DD. Went to hospital emergency and they sent me home. The next day the headache started and I was close to blacking out - turned out to be post partum pre-eclampsia. Blood pressure only spiked at that point and no protein in urine.

You need to take this seriously and seek medical advice asap. Specifically ask to be tested for HELLP and they will test both your liver and kidneys

As I said it is a simple blood test to rule something more dangerous out. Yes we were very lucky. My sister was in ICU for 4 nights. It wasn't until day 3post bubs birth the she had protein in urine. Her BP escalated in a matter of 6hrs.

Eta it was really her blood work which had them preparing for surgery. Her BP at that time was still not too high.

Upper right hand side is your liver area, I would be definitely mentioning this to my care provider.

It was one of the things my midwife told me to be aware of when listing a bunch of high blood pressure / pre eclampsia symptoms.
