Hi ladies,
I just found out I am pregnant after 8 months ttc. I was taking Elevit with Iodine, zinc and wild krill oil while TTC. Now I have switched to Blackmores pregnancy and breastfeeding and swisse wild fish oil because it's mercury tested. Would it be better to take the wild salmon oil? I'm worried now the wild fish oil might be made from the livers of fish even though I can't find anything on it. Thanks |

I take Elevit. I don't think you need to take any additional fish oil etc. Blackmores should be enough

All you need is folatic acid and a balance diet.... +1 I found the pregnancy multivitamins made me throw up because of the iron but when I asked my GP about it, he said multivitamins aren't necessary anyway and to not worry about trying out other brands. Unless you have a really terrible diet or a known deficiency, just a daily ifolate tablet is perfectly fine. This post has been edited by JBaby: 01/01/2013, 06:38 PM |

My Swisse Pregnancy + Ultivite formula includes folic, iodine and a recommended dose of Omega 3 (wild salmon oil). It is mercury tested too. (Oh and all your vitamins and antioxodants).

I took Blackmores and extra fish oil supp but I can't remember which one! I guess go with whatever you feel comfortable with (if uncertain about mercury testing).

I take a fish oil that's triple filtered (?) from the naturopath to remove as much of the heavy metals and also what seems like a super potent pregnancy multi (mainly because of twins). I am sure a very balanced diet and folic acid you be fine but I like to err on the side of caution and do what is advised by the naturopath and doctor.
I thought (from my first pregnancy) that the dr said taking extra fish oil in the first trimester is great for the brain development, but I could be wrong. |

I only ever took Blackmores. I'm sure I asked my OB about taking fish oil etc and she didn't seem fussed either way about it.

Congratulations! I take Blackmores and have since a few months before my first baby was born. I also take iron supplements because I'm low. My OB said multivitamins will never hurt, they're great if you're lacking something (we can't always be perfect with our diet) and anything extra will just be excreted by the body.
What are the benefits of fish oil? I have arthritis in my hip from an old running injury and previous surgery, I should probably take some!! |
