If the new baby is a girl (pretty sure no lol) I'm going to keep campaigning for Emerald!

Please tell me now all the reasons why I would be dreadful to inflict such a name on my child etc

I hadn't really thought about Emerald as a name before but it is actually quite pretty and Em or Emmie would be cute as a nickname too original.gif

My favourite gemstone names are Emerald and Opal.

Emerald is nice because it has Emmy as a nickname if she wants to blend into the crowd but on its own it stands out.

I also like the Spanish form, Esmeralda, but it seems like Emerald is actually easier going, despite being used less often?

I like Emerald. Eme or Emme as a nickname is adorable.

Ruby has become too popular for my liking, and Pearl is on the rise. Emerald is an undiscovered "gem."

Go for it!

I'm no help, I love it! It was in my short list before we discovered we were having a boy. I love Em or Emmy as nicknames. The only slight hesitation I had with it was whether it was pronounced as two or three syllables, i.e. Em-rald or Em-er-ald.

Mrs
sorry I'm not keen on it at all, sounds a bit harsh sounding

Ruby, Jade and Pearl are nice though
