my DD didn't get the ATAR score she needed to get into Uni so is applying for the contract programme being offered byMurdoch.

Has anyone else's child applied before?

Very disappointed girl here and trying to lift her spirits by letting her know there is life after bad ATAR. You know looking at other options for getting in to Uni etc.

I feel for your daughter. Mine got a fantastic score more than what she needed by far, unfortunately she freezes with essays and didnt get English competency which excludes her. She has to take a stat test next Saturday but it will mean she will miss first round offers sad.gif

I just looked at the Murdoch site and the independent study contract is for units not currently provided? Is that right?

I'm not sure but this is the link to it. http://our.murdoch.edu.au/Student-life/Stu...sfully/OnTrack/

My DD did well in her exams but the weighting bought it down to much.

I was at Notre Dame Uni in Fremantle last year and one of the girls in my tutorial has done the Alternative Entry program to get on to the course as her ATAR was not high enough.

TZ what does your daughter want to study at uni? So often the whole score at the end of highschool is the focus and if kids don't get it, they don't know about other options. I missed out on the score for the degree I wanted, so did another degree that I got into. In hindsight, it would have been better to get into uni using one of the many alternate routes rather than doing something I wasn't excited about. I ended up dropping out half way through, owing HECS and then doing something completely different. Ónly now have I completed a degree, much closer to my original plan.

OP a year after highschool graduation could she not enter as a mature age student? or as an alternate could you look into Open Universities? they are brilliant and once she has studied online for a SP or 2 she could transition to on campus?

This ontrack program actually sounds pretty good, gives them an intro into Uni life. She just has to get in. Luckily she has easy access to all of the 3 campuses offering it so hopefully that helps her get a place.

She wants to to Biomedical science and Forensic science.

This weighting they do is bizarre. For example she got 78% in her Human Biology exam but the weighting then changed that to 48. So whilst she received good exam marks the weighting killed her end result.

I went to Charles Sturt (many years ago) and did biomedical science. It is offered by distance ed and probably has a much lower score to get in than the capital city unis. Has she thought of that?

I think the whole marking thing is wrong. If your daughter is happy to do it then go for it. For the sake of two stupid marks, my daughter has to sit the stat on Saturday to get English competency, yet scored 20 marks in total higher than what she needs for the degree she wants to do! Not only that she was doing stage 3 English, she should not have to prove she is competent if she is doing stage 3!

I wonder if my daughter will meet your daughter one day, same uni and same course pathways! How freaky!
