 Help baking with new gas oven, changing from electric |

We live in a rental and because nearly all the stove top burners were not working, about a year ago we were given a new oven & stove. The old electric oven was reliable and made cakes beautifully, never a problem. Since the new gas oven came along I've had to increase the temp markedly and cook much longer, eg. a mudcake takes maybe 2.5 hours instead of 1hr and 40min.
I made a sponge roll this morning to take to my 96 year old grandmother's - what a flop. I cooked it for 12minutes instead of 8 but still it wasn't cooked enough. I had the oven at 190C instead of 180C and preheated for 40minutes. A total waste of time and 5 home grown eggs! Can anyone tell me if this is a common problem with changing and how best to compensate? I have measured the oven with a thermometre and it seems spot on, however I didn't ever measure the temp of the old oven. Thanks in advance |
