Okay, so I am really confused!!

I had kinda given up on the idea of having another baby. Then two months ago AF was late (almost never happens). It was due Mon morning, I did a test Mon evening & got a feint BFP (I didn't imagine it, my sister and DH could also see it!). I did another on Tues morning, the same strength line appeared. Then Wed night AF showed up It was a normal af, not heavy or light, it lasted the usual 5 days. I assumed CP & got my hopes up for conceiving.

Then the following month, AF was now due on the Wed right? Again it was 3 days late, finally appearing on Saturday. In those 3 days I did a few tests, they were either BFNs or had lines so feint I wasn't sure if I was imagining them. But much to my surprise AF was soooo light and only lasted a few days, so on Wednesday I did another test and got a feint (but definite) BFP! I tested again on Friday to confirm and got a bfn (nothing there to even imagine).

Aside from the very first test the first month, all tests were FMU. All tests except the very last one were with FRERs, the last one was a Confirm.

I was working under the assumption that a chemical pregnancy is followed by a heavy period, certainly not a light one? And an implantation bleed is just a few spots and couldn't show after AF is due? So what's with all the BFPs? What is going on?? Is there anything else that can cause a positive preg test when you were never pregnant to begin with?

Some medications can cause false BFPs, including several types of fertility drug. If you read the test too late, outside the time limit, or checking again later or remove it from it's protective plastic covering, or it's out of date it can give a false positive. Evaporation lines can look like a positive but have no colour, these aren't false positives, they're not positive at all. If there's no colour to the line, it fades or is very very faint it's most likely an evaporation line. Contamination of blood or high amounts of protein in the urine can cause a false +.

Provided your tests are in date, your reading them in the right time frame (and not checking back on them and seeing a line later) and you haven't removed the tests from their casing which some women do to get a closer look but ruins the test) the most common cause of so called false positives is CP, especially if AF is late.

If it's been 3 days late two cycles in a row you may simply be experiencing a shift in your menstral cycle, they do happen over time women's cycles can change. But a CP can also throw your cycles off. A very early CP is unlikely to make your period change much. If AF is 3 days late again this cycle I'd say your experiencing a change in your cycle. If this is the case you might want to check when your O'ing (temp &/or OPKs) to make sure your BDing at the right time. Good luck.

You can't assume that your period will turn up on a certain day because of the day it happened the previous cycle. It's all hinged on when you ouvlated in the cycle. You can only say it's "late" if you know when you ovulated.

If you're unsure about whether you are really producing hcg or not a blood test will soon tell you if it's been a chemical pregnancy or whether it's an inacurate positive (they do happen).

If you have a very regular cycle you can to some extent assume the day AF should turn up. I was regular to the day for years. But stress, illness and other things can cause your cycle to vary. Cycles tend to lengthen (on average) as women age and can be affected by lots of outside stressors and life factors.
