When looking at this forum it seems as though people are either using MCNs or disposable nappies but I see very few people who mention using the old fashioned cloth nappies. I've been home from hospital with my son for a week and a half and we've used terry flats full time. I'm not finding them too hard or time consuming to deal with and they're super cheap to buy ($20 for a dozen). Pilchers have been a bit tricky to find at times but I've got enough to get by. Tell me I'm not the only one who has chosen to go this way because I'm starting to feel that way!

We used terry flats exclusively for us first two. And in conjunction with mcns for our last two, thou we primarily use them for our newborns exclusively. They are awesome for trips away, as they dry so fast. Pilchers are hard to find, but there are much better options for waterproof covers now, that last longer and are just better.

Fembo, not tart.
I used terry flats for the first 2 months before switching to MCN's. Simply because being single, the MCN's were a lot less time consuming with the folding and also much quicker to put on an incredibly wiggly little boy who HATED nappy changes and at 3yo, still does. Yet he refuses to get toilet trained. Doh!

Warning - occasional attempts at humour - not always successful
I used terry flats for both of my girls - love them, and still have a drawer full as they are the most versatile of rags!!!

Edited to add - I used velcro pilchers - they used to have them (first child around) at all the chain stores but only found them in op shops with the second one - probably because of the rise of MCNs - they were excellent.

I used them with DD1 but by DD2 had fallen in love with cute MCN bums! We still use them as rags - they are awesome!

I loved terry flats and used them fulltime when DS was a baby. He looked so cute in them and I rarely had issues with nappy rash or leakage. I bought the flats, snappi's and pilchers from K-Mart. DS wore them until he was daytime TT'ed. We still use them now as rags and they still are in great condition.

Back in my day terry and flannelette flats were all that was available other than for some crummy dri-tots disposables.
All 5 of ours used them from Day 1 until they were TT. I always bought a new lot for each baby but they lasted so well that I still have some of them for grandbaby burpies and dusters.

I used the flannel pilchers, these days I would probably go for a PUL cover which you can easily buy or make.

I used bamboo prefolds with my first bub til he was about 18m... They're still "MCN" but a bit closer to terry flats in that you pin them on (snappi), then add a cover. I have since used a few different styles.

If I was tight for money and needed to start from scratch I would use terry flats happily. BUT I would use them with snappis - plastic clips - instead of pins, and I would invest in some MCN covers (e.g. baby beehinds). Simply to make it easier/more comfortable.

If bub was inclined to rashes at all, I'd consider buying a piece of microfleece and cutting it up to make stay-dry liners to lay inside the nappy (did this with my first), or do lots of nappy free time (did this with my second).

I used terry flats for my first 5 children. I didn't find it too much work for the first few, but didn't know about mcn's until I had baby 4....by then I was used to folding flats....and the mcn's I had seen were very expensive. For baby 5 I had a few mcns but not many. For baby 6 I have a full stash of mcns original.gif
