Hey there everyone,

I am new to this website, but hoping I can get some advice and support.

My DH and I have been TTC since Oct 2011, we went to see a FS in Nov 2012 and had some tests done.

I have now been diagnosed with PCOS and insulin intolerance and DH has results like he is on recreational drugs or smoking, which he does neither.

We have been told that our only way of getting pregnant will be to do IVF, so due to my results, the FS has put me on Metformin and wanting to see how I go with my weight loss until the 1st February, when we will go back to see her. She is worried I will almost certainly become diabetic if we were to start IVF now.

Has anyone else gone through IVF who can give me some insight as to what we can expect?

We are hopeful that 2013 is our year

I have PCOS and after trying for some time, did my first cycle of IVF in July and am now expecting.
It was much easier than I had anticipated*, but I had been through medicated IUIs - so daily injections etc. IVF is just the next step, as they put you to sleep for the egg retrieval (light sedation). I think I was awake about 20 minutes after I went down. Do you have any specific questions? I'd be happy to answer anything I can. I'm writing on this post rather than the one on the AC board, as there's a bit more sensitivity toward BFPs, so I'm being cautious, but happy to answer here or there.

The main issue with PCOS patients is the risk of OHSS. I was hospitalised for 8 days after my IVF, due to complications. You have to prepare yourself that if you're "at risk", they probably won't do an embryo transfer that same month and instead will freeze embryos. Unfortunately I was not deemed "at risk", so we did the embryo transfer, I got pregnant and that's how the OHSS developed (hormones from the pregnancy, plus the hormones from the drugs)

*I say IVF was easier than I anticipated - I mean the procedure. Emotionally it's hard and for me, it worked the first cycle. If it had failed I know how devestated I would have been, having had devestating medicated cycles prior. I'm not downplaying the whole process, but the procedure wasn't as daunting as I'd expected.

hi, we are in a similar boat, i just started taking that drug too - how are you going with it? good luck for 2013, I am sure it is going to be a GREAT year
