Hello all

Just a warning that this is going to be a LONG post! I tried to post it in the most relevant area but mods please let me know if I need to move it to another part of the forum.

My hubby and I have been trying to conceive our second child for just on 12 months.

We conceived our daughter after 2 years of ttc and with the help of clomid. We conceived her on the fourth round.

This time around we hoped it may happen naturally as we had heard how your body can suddenly cotton on to what you want it to do after going through one pregnancy, but after the 10th month we decided not to waste any more time and went back to our fertility specialist.

I was prescribed clomid again being that it worked for us last time and it took a relatively short amount of time to do so. I was to start it from my next period, but I haven't had it yet. Which brings me to the point of my thread!

Whilst at my FS appointment he did a scan to check everything was looking ok and said that I had a follice growing at a steady rate and that I would ovulate in about 4 days (how they can be so specific beats me - but it works!). So we threw ourselves in to BD'ing for all 4 days leading up to my expected O day and one day afterwards.

Being the POAS addict that I am, as well as impatient, impulsive, negative etc.. I thought it would be a bright idea to take a HPT at what we presumed to be 8dpo, which was Saturday 22nd December (given we can't be sure of the EXACT day of ovulation, we assumed that I O'd on Friday 14th December, which is the date the FS stated I would ovulate).

So I took an FRER on Saturday 22nd December (8dpo) in the early afternoon. To my surprise, it came up with a very faint positive - very faint but noticeable enough for even my hubby to be able to see it. It came up within a couple of minutes, if that, so I'm fairly certain it wasn't an evap line or anything like that, plus it was clearly pink.

I decided not to get my hopes up yet and thought I'd take another the next morning. I took another FRER with FMU and it was completely negative - not even a hint of any line. Took another FRER that afternoon, again BFN. Took another FRER the next day and the day after that, all BFNs. I accepted that it was either a very unlikely false positive or that I had had a CP, which is the most likely reason for the drop in results.

Now this next bit contains TMI - two days ago, when I was 12dpo, after going to the loo I noticed blood and a lot of CM on the toilet paper, which I put down to the start of AF. That was in the morning, and I had no other trace of blood for the rest of the day. Yesterday, nothing. Today, nothing. I got a little giddy with the slightest of hope that I might have just experienced implantation bleeding, albeit very late. However, I have in a previous cycle had some minor spotting with no full-on AF for a day or so, with it eventually showing up. So I'm not sure if this is another one of those situations.

At this point, I have no idea what to think. I'm leaning towards it being just a late case of AF, and it potentially being due to a CP.

I did some research and found that whilst its possible, its relatively unlikely for an egg to implant as late as 12dpo, and that in the cases where it does, theres a high risk of early loss. So again, I'm not sure what to think. My only 'symptoms' are a lot of CM, slightly uncomfortable boobs while laying on my tummy after I'd already had one of the BFNS (that hasn't happened since) and a slightly 'off' appetite. I am not one for a slightly off appetite so I'm not sure if that means something.

After all that babbling, I hope some of you have the patience to relate your experiences if you have been in a similar situation and what the result was. I don't want to spend any more money on HPT's as I've already bought 3 packs in the last 2 weeks. I do intend to invest in some IC's if this cycle turns out to be a no-go. On a side note, I've always had a monthly period, never missed one, but my cycle length can vary from month to month - sometimes its 28 days, the next month it could stretch out to 32. So I'm not really sure if I'm late or spot on to get AF any second - if it gets to the 31st and she still doesn't show, then I might start to wonder!

I would have thought that implantation bleeding was pretty unlikely at 12 days post ovulation.

The only way you'll know what's happening is to do another pregnancy test, unless your period shows up beforehand. Since all of your other tests were quite early, I'd say it's still a possibility that you're pregnant.

Thank you noi'mnot, I agree with you that its highly unlikely. Gah, if only I listened to my husband and didn't take those tests so damn early!

I'm still erring on the side of caution and trying to protect myself from massive disappointment so I'll probably wait till NY's day and if it hasn't showed up by then I'll get another HPT and see how we go.

it is possible to have an egg implant at 12dpo I have a 6 yr old that is proof of that. My HPTs with her never showed +ve until 16dpo(and i tested everyday) and I was on clomid and monitored for exact O and temps. So it isn't over until you get AF

I guess I should be more optimistic given that AF hasn't shown her ugly mug yet. I'm just worried that I'm convincing myself of something that isn't true.

I'm 15dpo today so if Af doesn't show up by Tuesday I'll be taking a test. With my daughter I didn't test till 21dpo, wish I'd had that much patience this time around!!
