Posted in the NSW section but have had no response....So we are here in Orange visiting family, for the week. We have kids aged 7, 5 and 7 months.

Can anyone recommend some fun things to do with kids in or around the area? We're happy to do a bit of driving, we have a car.

Happy to spend money, but of course we always like free or cheap entertainment as well! Have been down the Main Street and done a bit of shopping....now what!?

There is a kids adventure playground out at the botanical gardens. It's free but there is a cafe there for the adults for coffee etc.

Also try lake canoblas or however it's spelt for a lovely picnic and swim if the the weather is good, also free.

For adults you can do a winery tours (no shortage of vineyards there) but not sure what to do with the kids.

Drive to Bathurst and do a lap of the mount (Bathurst 1000), free.

There a a few dams around that area but if you don't like fishing or have a boat it might not be worth it.

Fwiw I didn't really like orange for kids but for adults there is a fair bit however expensive http://www.tasteorange.com.au/

As previous poster mentioned there is the Adventure Playground near the botanic gardens on Hill St, there is Gosling Park (out past the new hospital), which has a lake and a good amount of track for riding bikes around, and a play area & BBQ areas. There is Lake Canobolas, and there is the pool. If you wanted to take a day trip to Dubbo (nearly 2 hours each way), there is Western Plains Zoo there, which is nice. Bathurst has ducks at Macchati Park, and a big new playground near the hospital. Orange has one indoor play centre I think, it's near the ex-services club, on a st that comes off Anson St, maybe Byng or Prince St. Bathurst has a fossil & mineral museum with some replica dinosaur skeletons, it's on Howick St and not very expensive from memory. That's about all I can think of for now.

There's also the Japanese Gardens in Cowra. Not sure of the cost of entry. Cowra is a little over an hour each way from Orange

There's Cook Park also, it used to have a variety of animals there and a few duck ponds. We were last there a few years ago and they were renovating.

Lake Canobolas was always fun as a kid but I'm not sure what is there now and what your kids enjoy.

Hope you find some enjoyable things and have a great stay.

If a womens work is never done, Why start?
Ten pin bowling and the movies? Adventure Playground is great. What about a drive to millthorpe? Not really kiddy but a lovely little town to visit.
Also the pool?
Whenever we go to Orange it's to shop so not really kid activities.

Have fun whatever you find to do.

go to hogs breath on main street lol.

Drive up mount Canobolas its pretty view.

RSL is good for dinner. There is a railway thing in Orange but cant remember what its called, my grand dad volunteers with it. I vote bathurst, there is a museum up on the mountain, but be careful driving around the mountain as they have speed cameras set up.

On the way to Trunki they have some cute shops and vineyards.

Drive out to Dubbo for the day, go to the zoo original.gif also, I think Parkes has the big observatory/dish? Not sure how far that is to drive.

I haven't taken my daughter to Orange so don't know local kid friendly attractions. There is a big park just off the Mitchell Hwy which from memory (last time I went to the park 10+ years ago) had an aviary. The botanical gardens are lovely & there's a big playground.

ETA: the Pizza Hut is eat in & all you can eat. Also kid friendly.

Thank you, we did Bathurst yesterday. How fun was that! And we found a great adventure playground in Bathurst.

The day before that, we went to the Orange adventure playground and had a coffee which was not too bad.
