When my 7wk old wakes for a feed during the night I always change his nappy even if it is only wet. I change it halfway through a feed. I have had a couple of people tell me that I shouldn't change it (unless it is dirty) as it will wake him up too much and he will struggle to go back to sleep.
Does anyone else not change nappies during the night? |

We do- we use cloth nappies and they are soaked by time she wake up. I am feeding using EBM and formula, so DH goes and heats the EBM while I change her nappy.
Even if we are using disposibles I usually change it, it is part of the routine here. We also watch TV with the lights on while we feed overnight. Have done it with all 3 children, and have not had probles with settling back to sleep after the fee, and the first two slept through at 10 and 6 weeks respectively. |

I always changed his nappy in the middle of a feed, between sides (he always took both sides).

If you are worried about it waking him up too much why not change before you start the feed?
I don't actually think it is necessary, unless you can feel it is very full or dirty. Try a few nights not changing and see if he goes back to sleep better and if he is leaking in the morning. What sort of nappies do you use? that might make a difference too. |

We always changed at night if needed. I think he was around 9 months when we stopped as it wasnt needed anymore.
We found it easier to change a nappy in the night rather than change bedding, clothes and gro bag. |

In the early days, I changed between feeds. Around about 6 months? I started changing before a feed. She started to wake up too much at the halfway feed the halfway change nappy I think really is only good for when your baby is little and falls asleep feeding and you want to keep them up.

I changed his nappy just before I put him back to bed after his feed, he always wet his nappy while feeding. Once he had a dry butt I re-wrapped him and he was put back in his cot drowsy. He learnt to put himself the rest of the way to sleep fairly quickly, no fussing. He would make a few noises as he got comfortable then zonk out.

We don't have too many issues with him going back to sleep. If we do I just usually put him in his rocker while I express and by the time I'm finished he is usually asleep. Lately I have been changing his nappy before the feed though.
The person who told me not to change his nappy was shocked that I did it, which I thought was a bit weird. |

I didn't unless it was dirty, or very full. But I had (have) a very bad sleeper who doesn't need any extra activity in the middle if the night.
