I have already tried Novalac Reflux. Was good for 1 week and we are back to the same old square one. Baby is 2.5 weeks old.

We spoke to our dr and used a thickener (karicare) which can be added to formula or breast milk. She was a little older though if I remember correctly (she is almost 4 now, so it was a while ago).

After we spoke to our dr we found we could do a number of things for our daughter to help with her reflux.

We also added the Karicare thickener, it's good because you can play with the consistency until you find what works best. Reflux specific formulas never worked for us.

I use the Karicare thickener and karicare De Lact (DD is also lactose intolerant). The formula doesn't help much though to be honest, it's the losec/ Zantac (which we haven't seemed to get the right dose with either, unfortunately).

Have to agree with this. The thickener helped with the mess factor, but it was zantac (for DS) and losec (DD) that had the biggest effect.

DD's reflux caused her no pain so the Karicare thickener was all we needed. Tried AR formulas but they weren't thick enough. As a PP suggested you can play around with the amounts until you get the thickness that works for you. She still did some up chucks but it was not projectile like it was without the thickener.

I also had a wrap type sling so she could stay ipright as long as possible after a feed.

When my daughter was newb her reflux was terrible, we tryed the thickener, we tryed different formulas as she was also having problems with the runs. It wasn't until we had seen a pead that the had strong suspicions that she had a cows milk protien alergy, she also reacts to soy. He did tell me that a lot of babies with reflux have problems the same as Sydney in regards to the cmp. Once she was on neocate for a bit he then said to stop her losec if we wanted as that's most likely the reasons. I have a differen daughter now. When I did speak to him about the thickner he said that it a lot of times only masks the problem. And by swapping to neocate a lot of times it fixes it.

I'd see if you can see a pead about it as I never would have worked out what was going on unless we had of seen him as a lot of GP's don't have the knowledge about it.

I hope you can get in to see your chn soon or give her a call. Your baby is so young, reflux is pretty usual for babies but not to the level that the baby is unable to grow due to how much milk is brought back up.
Is she doing ok with nappies/wee etc?
Is she getting any breast milk, I think I've see other posts of yours about breast milk (my bad memory!), if so try to maximise breast milk intake, babies can also spit up breast milk. As pp has mentioned it can be related to the "formula" of the formula/cmp problems.
That's why getting advice from a health professional would be ideal.

thanks for the replies!! we have a dr appt on Saturday morning.. just a quick question tho, i have noticed alot of people have used the karicare thickener to their formulas, but which formula do they use? I have noticed the novalac reflux is now constipating him, and seeing what the dr says or prescribes, was wondering which formula to switch to?

We used nan 1ha gold, which I would absolutely NOT recommend since they changed the formula. We bought 4 cartons of the old stuff, which only ran out recently. We have since started DS on Bellamy's organic, and are pretty happy with it.
