Just wondering if there's any others out there that have had a similar experience as this...My 2.5 yr old wakes up vomiting once every 30-40 days. There's no signs or symptoms to let us know its going to happen. He will just wake up one day and start vomiting, nothing but bile. He will vomit every 10-15 min for about 5 hrs. He will then sleep for a couple hours and wakes completely normal, eating, running, playing and talking non stop. Has been happening on average every month now for just over a year. It's starts and finishes the same way every time and no-one else in the family has ever been sick around the same time. We've been to a specialist and had tests for food allergies, X-rays and scans on his tummy but they have no idea what might be causing it. Would just be interested to know if anyone else has had a similar experience and if they found out what was causing it???

My 12yr old daughter has this - can be completely happy and normal and the next minute pale and vomitting with no signs or symptoms. Our GP prescribed Zofran which has been so far working.

It is incredibly frustrating, and so draining on the kids sad.gif we have vomit bags on hand at ALL times car, house, school bag, etc etc

Good luck - I feel your pain! sad.gif

Oh that sucks for you and her! Does it happen randomly? My son only does it once a month type thing and for about 5hrs that day. Because it happens first thing when he wakes in the morning we haven't been caught out, too many times. Just do a quick cancellation of the days plans.
What does the zofran do?

maybe parasites in the gut? laying dormant then getting active for a period. can you get a blood/feces test for parasites?
ETA: i met a lady whose son gets severe stomach cramps once a month or so with vomiting which lasts a few hours to a day, there's some sort of parasite been found which she believes is the cause, and she can't find anything which kills the parasite, but is looking into medical and alternative ways to deal with it.
OR it could be something completely different?!?

That was what we originally thought, but was later diagnosed with cyclic vomitting syndrome

We have had every test under the sun, no parasites etc

As she is getting older it is less frequent, but still enough to be annoying for her. She was on avg about 2-3 times a month, but now it is approx 1 per month. Hers could be any time of the day or night without warning

Zofran is a wafer that dissolves under her tongue which is used for nausea - the minute she is looking pasty and we know whats coming we give her one.

Hope that helps original.gif

I will ask our specialist next visit if she can test for parasites. We've had a huge number of blood tests for almost everything they can think of so could have already been done. Thanks for that tho, will def. be asking!

I've convinced myself its cyclic vomiting syndrome, which according to google is linked (but not proven) to migraines when older.

I used to get it as a child, but I also had horrible stomach pain too and it was diagnosed as an abdominal migrane.

Hope you get some answers OP. I know my mother tried for years to find out what was wrong with me, she even started thinking I was making it up!
