I'm after recommendations for restaurants in Sydney that serve yummy veg food.

Organising a dinner for my friend's birthday and need to book ASAP but google and eatability don't seem to have any useful suggestions.

Type of cuisine doesn't matter too much, just as long the food is great and it's suitable for a birthday dinner.

In a particular area?

I don't mind http://www.harvestvegetarianrestaurant.com/ in Rozelle.

Or there's always good old Govindas in Darlinghurst http://www.govindas.com.au/

Hi, I was going to recommend Harvest as well but for something different try Nilgiris. It is indian and does serve some meat but the chef is vegetarian and he specialises in it. It is LOVELY.

Anywhere in Newtown is great for veg food, there are loads of veggie restaurants and all the others have good veg selections.

Never forget who you are, little star
Any of the good Indian restaurants serve fantastic vege food. Nilgiri's, St Leonards as a PP mentioned. Also Malabar or Last Train to Bombay in Crows Nest.

Alternatively, middle eastern restaurants have excellent vegetarian. We went to Kasbah on Saturday night, mmmmm. There is one at Balmain, one at Top Ryde in the piazza and one at Darling Harbour.

Any of the above would be perfect for a birthday gathering.

What about the Bodhi Chinese restaurant? I haven't been there for a while (many years in fact), but last time I went the vegan yum cha was fantastic. And who doesn't love yum cha!

If it's a very special birthday, try est at the Establishment Hotel and ask for the vegetarian menu. It's a full menu with plenty of choice. It's expensive but worth every cent. I'm an omnivore and have eaten from the veg menu without feeling for a second like anything is missing.

For a less wallet busting meal try Emma's on Liberty in Enmore for great Lebanese.
