So this is a spin off from the MIL who gives 'forbidden' foods.

This was my post:
My nephew has intolerances to certain foods but FIL & MIL "know better" and despite the poor kid being lactose intolerant give him ice cream & chocolate milkshakes when their mother isn't around. I'm sure she knows because my nephew has a sore belly afterwards & is irritable (plus the runs) but sil says nothing.

The other day my MIL offers my five week old some garlic bread "just to taste it"
I pulled the baby close to me and glared at her. She laughed it off, but there is no way they will be left unsupervised with my son. Especially not before he can speak and tell me what the ILs have fed him.

This isn't the only thing that the ILs do with the kids that has be going

The other day MIL was relaying a "funny story"

Kids were doing craft, the craft glue wasn't working, the googley eyes wouldn't stay out. So FIl get out the super glue from the tool shed (because that will make those googley eyes stay for sure). He gives it to MIl who leaves it next to the four year old niece with the specific instruction "grandma will help you, once I've gotten changed."

Naturally the four year old listened, then Proceeded to super glue the eyes herself while no one was watching. She got super glue all in her hair. Niece has lovely thick curly hair and MIL knew SIL would freak out with the superglue in her hair so MIL gets our the scissors and starts cutting out the matted super glue hair, ties her hair up and said nothing when SIL picks her up.

I don't know what was more shocking:
Giving superglue to a child
Leaving a child unsupervised with a toxic product
Not advising the parent when an incident has occurred

I had no words for MIL when she finished her story. I'm surprised DP survived his childhood.

Do not leave your children with these people. You SIL is irresponsible, her poor children to be left with them.

Well, i think after some of the stuff i read here, my MIL isn't so bad She has never done anything that dodgy when having the kids stay.
But when she gave DD a glass painting set. It had been opened with 2 or 3 of the glass rocks missing, and a few of the paints used and opened which had dried up and the kids were not impressed. So DH said 'mum probably wanted to have a go of it' he said it cacking himself laughing! I was shocked! asking him if he was serious?!, but could see the funny side.
I am going to be on the look out for her works of glass painted art when i visit next

Giving a lactose intolerant child milk and dairy is bordering on abuse in my book.

That is horrible OP. My inlaws tried to feed cheese to my 15 month old milk allergic daughter yesterday. When questioned they didn't understand the problem as it was cheese not milk .

My kids have never been allowed to stay unattended with anyone in my bogan SIL's family. They are the people who think it's funny to offer alcohol to toddlers and get baby's ears pierced without permission.

When DS1 was 2months old, we were at a friends house for a BBQ.
I left DS sitting on our friends lap, while I nicked to the loo. DH was in their spa.

When I got back, DS was happily sitting on the friends lap, sucking on a spoonful of peanut butter. Apparently he'd gotten grisly, and couldn't wait for me to finish in the bathroom. All of 3 minutes. I was so cross!

Oh it will be a blue day in hell before they are left unsupervised with my child.
Im not sure if its because they are old or just careless.

As people they are nice, they just have little to no concept when it comes to children.

Luckily, my mum looks after my little one and my mum is hyper careful, in fact both her and my dad did a parenting course while I was pregnant to brush up on the latest techniques/advice.

MIL cut (SIL's child) her granddaughter's hair when the child was there unsupervised. I'm surprised that she hasn't had the child's ears pierced.

That's one of the reasons why my children don't spend unsupervised time with her.
