This post may be TMI....
I had an emergency c-section early nov I stopped bleeding around week 5 Then in the last few days it started again, firstly brown so I thought it was just a little old blood. Then today there is more but red in colour. Saw GP yesterday and she started me on antibiotics as she thought it was an infection (also have tenderness in belly) DP wonders if it could be my period. I exclusively breast feed and didn't think you ovulated in the first 6 months if you exclusively breast fed. Anyone got some thoughts on this or past experience on this? It's very possible to get your period back right away, i think all it takes is 1-2 gaps of 6 hours in feeding, but some I know haven't even had this and got their af back.

DD is six months and I still don't have it back. I mix feed too so I don't exclusively BF.

Any bleeding in the first 9 weeks is not considered a period. The tenderness in your belly is the concern, rather than bleeding alone.
And you can ovulate in the first 6 months even with breastfeeding so don't count on it for contraception! If you want to do the Lactational Amenorrhoea Method then contact someone who can help you with that so you know whether you can rely on it or not. |

I don't think exclusively breastfeeding stops you from ovulating...
I got my period back around 8 weeks and I was exclusively expressing. I think some people are just lucky and get 6 months off while others of us just have to go on with business as usual Congrats on your bub |

I bled for 11 weeks after giving birth to DS. I then got my period back when he was 4 months old.
He was fully breastfed on demand and definitely did not go more than 3 hours without a feed. |

I don't know about the tenderness but I DO know it's a wives tale that you can't ovulate if you are breast feeding. Many babies have been conceived when their mothers thought they would be safe because they were breast feeding their first baby.

DD - Period returned at 7 weeks despite exclusively breastfeeding around the clock. (The longest period between feeds maybe 5-6 hours?)
DS - He is 5 months today and I am still waiting but I am tandem feeding and feeding DS 2-3 hourly at night still so lots more feeding going on which is why I suspect it still isn't back yet. |

I had an emergency Caesar with DD5.
She is nearly 8 months and I still don't have my period back. She is on solids, but still being breastfed. After the CS I bled for about 8 weeks on and off. My OB said you can bleed more and for longer with a CS. This post has been edited by nessrose: 22/12/2012, 07:40 PM |
