Im back again after having 3 recurrent miscarriages now, after giving ourselves some time both Dh and I are keen to try again, I am 40, Dh is 42, so its just a matter of trying to catch the "right' egg now. I have been prescribed clomid to take to help speed up the ttc time, i didnt take it last cycle, and had now trouble ttc. Would you take clomid in my situation considering our ages, and the time we have? Even though i have nothing physically wrong with me. Do women my age take it to help speed up the ttc time. I realise that there's higher chance of multiples, but that's the risk we'll take.

Since you are able to fall pregnant, I really don't think Clomid is for you.

When you say 'speed up TTC', what do you mean?

Just so you know, Clomid does not lower the risk of miscarriage.

I have Dh who spends a reasonable time away from home for work, so timing is tricky, but he's taking some time off over new year, so it would perhaps make it easier to ttc?

Yes, i realise that it doesnt make any difference to miscarriage

Clomid helps you ovulate, which you obviously do, so no, I would not take it. It does not increase, or speed up, you chance of conceiving. It's also proven to be less effective in older women, and as pointed out, will not reduce your chance of miscarriage.

I'd be looking for a new doctor who was trying to help me determine my cause of miscarriage rather than prescribe me a drug which has some nasty side effects which you clearly don't need.

ETA have you used opks to pin point ovulation?

Ok thanks for youre opinions, no i know after reading the phamplet is does have some nasty side effects, i have got a good doctor and have had a lot of testing, specialists etc to determine why im having the m/c, and its unknown? I have been taking opk's yes, so i do have quite a good idea when i O, which is usually mid-cycle, as my cycle length is usually 23-25 days.

Every ones experience is different. If you O, I wouldn't personally take it. Side affects are horrid (if you get them), cycle after a failed clomid cycle was ultra heavy and it was listed as main reason behind my ectopic pg.

I didn't have any side effects on clomid, except perhaps mild nausea, but I took it before bed so I didn't notice.
Clomid will help you ovulate quicker if your cycles are really long. i.e. you will normally ovulate between day 12 and day 16 depending on how you react to it, which can be handy if it normally takes a really long time to ovulate. I wasn't ovulating til day 17 but then had only a 7 or 8 day luteal phase, so I was prescribed it to bring ovulation forward and lengthen my luteal phase. It did bring ovulation forward to day 14 but only got me a 9 or 10 (once) day luteal phase so it didn't really help my situation enough.
I don't think I would bother with it unless your cycles are really long or irregular. I think the worse risk is that it increases your cancer risk, so you are not supposed to take it for long.

Hi OP ....I had trouble conceiving my second.....after a range of tests it appeared I was having issues with ovulating ....I was ovulating but "not well" in the words of my OB/GYN ....had some further blood tests, I was prescribed clomid for one cycle and it was AWFUL ....I hated it....huge side effects, painful ovulation ...a blood test post ovulation showed my ovaries had been over stimulated ....had I conceived that cycle it almost certainly would have been a multiple pregnancy ...again, according to my FS....he pulled me off it...did further tests ....I was showing some insulin resistance with some other poly cystic tendencies .....so I was put on metformin and that DID work.....maybe something to raise with your dr...? (I have been told IR can contribute to early miscarriage , so metformin can be of assistance here...sometimes) good luck!

Thanks for youre replies, and best wishes No i dont have too much trouble conceiving, it usually happens within the first month or two of trying, if we're able to time it right, as i said Dh isnt there with me all the time. Perhaps i should hold off from taking clomid, after reading what side affects you can get, and i dont want it too upset my cycles.
