QUOTE my ob said that he had recently been to a conference where another ob stated that he didn't believe it worked. I wouldn't be satisfied with "believe", I'd prefer some evidence. It either helps or it doesn't, the proof is in the pudding so to speak. QUOTE Is it true that you can only get your supply so high and no matter what you do nothing will increase it? If you have done everything possible (physiologically and hormonally) to maximise your milk production and it remains pretty much stuck at a level the it would seem you have reached a capacity. So I'd be guided by what your LC has said. It is easier to maximise supply with baby on the breast so you are doing a fantastic job with your expressing and milk production. I have a memory of reading that whatever your supply is at around 6 weeks that is indicative of it's maximum but don't quote me on that! I know women who will easily keep up a full supply with only expressing but not all, I would guess I'd be one who couldn't. I did express for quite a while and I wasn't able to store very great amounts, I bet I'd have to express every 2 hrs around the clock to even try and I cant imagine I could sustain that long term. |

Thanks for that Lucky. My LC said I ned to stop the Motilium after this course is finished and just keep doing what I have been doing.
I'm committed to expressing for as long as I produce milk for, I figure every little bit of breast milk my little boy gets is doing him some good. I just wish I had more support when I was in hospital having DS and maybe my. Breast feeding journey would of been successful. |

Puffsgirl11 I completely relate. I had a very straightforward easy birth in a birth centre and was led to believe that being home would be the best place for my baby and I following the birth. It was wonderful being home, but I wish I had support breastfeeding! Nobody, not one midwife (never saw an OB), suggested that staying a few nights might be beneficial to help establish breastfeeding. By the time I worked out that I had low supply at about 12 weeks it was probably too late to ever increase it to a full supply. Baby was hungry and I never knew.
Motilium, however, I felt really did help. I worked so hard with frequent feeding, expressing, fenugreek, acupuncture etc and when I stopped the first course my milk supply dwindled again. I'm still taking the motilium months later - GP has no problems with it. I have put on weight though - not sure if its a side effect - anybody else put on weight taking motilium? |

I have s great book I refer to all the time - mother's guide to making more milk. It helps to work out why you might have supply issues and how to address it.

My OB also reluctantly prescribed motilium for me cos he kept saying it won't work...and he prescribed in meagre amounts and doses. I have since stopped taking and didn't go back to pharmacy for repeats.

I'm on my first round of Motilium at the moment and feel its made a huge difference to my supply. What doses are other people taking? Also my doctor said she can't give me a script with repeats on it as it won't be covered by PBS so I have to go back in and see her to get repeats is this true?

you need to wean off of the motillium. it is the ONLY thing that worked for me (the motillium) so i don't see why your OB thinks you are wasting your time... gradually lower the tablet by 1 less every 3 days.

I have read a lot of studies that have shown that motilium increases supply. So not sure why your OB says you are wasting your time? Maybe there is some new research out that I dont know about.
If I were you OP I would slowly wean off them, maybe 1 tablet less every week. I found that the first day I start dropping tablets is the worst and my supply would seem low that day. But my body then adjusts and the following day my supply is back. I hope you notice the same thing. Good luck! |
