I take Motilium for my milk supply and finish my course next week. I'm a bit worried that when I finish the course my supply may start to dwindle (this is my 2nd course, my supply dwindled after I finished the first course).

Has anyone had this happened to them and if so what else did you try?

I also get terrible headaches after taking Motilium, does anyone else get this side effect?

I didn't have problems with my supply dwindling after finishing up on motilium, but I did get horrible headaches so can relate to that! The only thing that helped was finishing up taking the motilium, unfortunately.

Have you tried fenugreek? May have less side effects for you (although gave me a bit of an upset stomach, but a lot of people have no problem with it).

I was in the same boat as you, and I second fenugreek, in fact looking back I think that for me fenugreek worked better for me than Motilium, and I really noticed an increase in supply.

My DD1's Paed allowed me repeats on the script until I chose to give it up (we were full time expressers). I found a proper brewed (yeast) ginger beer helped.

I have some fenugreek so will try that. My ob actually thinks I'm wasting my time on the Motilium so when I finish this course I don't think I will bother with it again. Looking forward to getting rid of the headaches.

Tet I'm also a full time expresser, so I am a bit worried about my supply.

Thanks for your replies original.gif

I wonder what the rationale for this thought is?
Are you under the care of a LC, she will be able to advise you re supply issues and how helpful the Motilium really is.
Have you got a double pump puffsgirl? Studies have shown that double pumps maximise supply, as well as being more time efficient.
All the best.

Motilium works by increasing the base level of prolactin so your natural ups and downs are at a higher level.but the effects wear off after about. 2 weeks. You're better off doing lactation cookies and fenugreek and fennel and extra stimulation.

Only a ginger can call a ginger a ginger!
Can I please ask you lovely ladies, fenugreek, do you take it in capsule form? And what brand do you prefer? I am currently on my second round of Motilium but that finishes soon. TIA

My fenugreek comes in capsule form, I get it from my local herbalist.

Lucky - my ob said that he had recently been to a conference where another ob stated that he didn't believe it worked. I do have a double pump that I'm using. I have seen an LC who virtually just told me that my supply is up to the highest amount it will get to and that there isn't much else I can do apart from what I'm doing (DS has 2 bottles of formula a day due to my low supply).

Is it true that you can only get your supply so high and no matter what you do nothing will increase it?

I have a recipe for lactation cookies that I will try.
