I've just come back from overseas holidays, while I was OS I went to the toilet and had a big gush of fresh red blood, enough to soak through a few applications of toilet paper and then.... nothing, no more blood. It was gone, I thought "maybe that was a miscarriage".

But yesterday I had a scan and have a healthy 13 wk pregnancy. Then last night, same thing, gush of blood that disappears as quickly as it came. It's not after intercourse, as i've been too sick to have that in a few weeks. Because i've been overseas I haven't seen the doctor about it yet.

Does anyone have any ideas what the hell is going on? :/

Could be a subchorionic haemorrhage. Small bleeds behind the placenta. Did they tell you anything at the scan or give you your results? I assume you have an appointment with your gp?

With my current pregnancy (I think I'm 26-ish weeks now) I had a similar gush of blood, at around 6 weeks. I sat on the toilet, and looked down to see what looked like about half a cup of blood gush out. An ultrasound later that day showed a happy baby, as have all of those since.

It's probably a good idea that you see a doctor, though. Another ultrasound might put your mind at ease. Take care.

I had a big bleed, similar to what you describe, when I was 19 weeks with DD2. Ultrasounds showed nothing wrong, and I ultimately had a healthy baby on her due date, but when I delivered the placenta, my OB could clearly see where the bleed had been. Contact your care giver and get his/her advice - it could be harmless, or could be something more.

Most likely this, it happened to me at 11 weeks. Exactually as you describe.

Sounds like mine too. I had that happen at 14 weeks just after having a perfect NT scan 6 days before. Went to the ER - everything was fine. Ultrasound the next day showed up nothing and they couldn't identify where the bleed was from. They told me it was a possible SCH and to come back if I had any fresh blood, but (TOUCH WOOD) everything has been fine since.

I think bleeding in pregnancy is more common than people think and it's natural to freak out. Holy dooley did I freak out. I still check for it everytime I go to the toilet.

OP, I've had a subchorionic haematoma (blood clot on uterine lining) which caused a moderate bleed at 7wks and a big bleed at 12wks. Very similar to what you described - a gush of blood. It was very scary!! However after the 12wk bleed, things seem to have settled down and it's mostly old blood now.

I've also found at my 19wk scan that I have a low-lying placenta and some (old-looking) bleeding from the slightly detached edge next to the cervix, so the bleeding has continued for me, but nothing like earlier in the pg. I've learned that bleeding is quite common in pg, but it's a pretty normal reaction to freak out!

BUT, my little bub has been fine on all scans so far. I'm almost 20wks now. My OB said it takes a lot to lose a pg after 12wks, this reassured me a lot at the 12wk bleed. Take it easy and look after yourself .

I have had two bleeds this pregnancy both times about half a cup of blood, both times upon ultrasound bean was healthy and they could not find a cause.

It happened with my first as well.

It is definitely scary when it happens but it seems pretty common.

I had a lot of bleeding in my second pregnancy due to placenta positioning.

OP if you are rhesus neg you will need a shot of anti d, ive had to have it already this pregnancy due to some bleeding.
