Hey all,

I have a question and I am apologising now for too much information but not sure what to do.

For the lasr few days i have been having some itching down below, its not internal its just external (eg when i go toilet and wipe its around there)

I am seeing my OB on Monday so I really would like to wait to ask him rather than have to call, explain it to his receptionist and then wait for a call back at a potentially awkward time.

Does this sound like something that can wait until Monday? I am thinking possibly thrush but cant be sure, i have only had itching similar to this about 3 years ago and that was thrush. I did make my poor Dh have a look at the area and he said he couldnt see any redness or iritation, mind u he is not a doc but redness is redness and he says theres none. Any opinions on what this could be and if it can wait til Monday for Ob to have a look would be very apreciated.
I am currently 13 weeks

(P.s. i am positive this is not any form of STI)

Thanks heaps in advance!

Definitely sounds like thrush to me. Its quite common in pregnancy. If you speak to the pharmacy, they'll tell you that you can use the 6 day cream treatment, just don't insert it too deeply.

I had that a month or so ago. Turned out it was the panty liners I was wearing - the edges seemed to be rubbing me and making me itchy.

Could it be anything like that?

If it is thrush, it won't wait till Monday! Your will be driven mad by then.

Go talk to your pharmacist, they will give you sound advice.

At 13 weeks I'd say thrush. A girl I know has had it throughout the first two trimesters of her pregnancy. Not nice.

Towards the end of my pregnancy I experienced a stinging / itching / aching down there. It was like the usual discharge from my vagina had become quite acidic or something. I showered or washed a few times a day to relieve it. But that was only towards the end of my pregnancy.

Can you call in to a pharmacist & ask if there is anything safe for you to use during your pregnancy?

Sounds like thrush! I would go to the local GP for that before Monday. If you are not happy with the answers from the gp you could wait for the obyn to call even if its an odd time.

Have you changed toliet paper recently? Or when you DTD use scented tissues to clean up? They can cause irritation. Otherwise I'd say thrush too. See a pharmacist or local GP.

In addition to what PP have suggested..

I had really itchy skin for most of my pregnancy too and while I didn't have thrush or a UTI, I did have this ongoing burning itching around my labia as well.

What worked for me was to stop using soap and instead washing with Dermaveen. Apparently oatmeal baths or oatmeal containg products can help relieve the itch. I also stopped wearing panty liners and stuck to cotton underwear.

It took a few days to settle down but I've not had any further itching.

I agree with the others - sounds like thrush. I had this too. Though for me my leukorrhea has been everything they say to watch out for, but I've had everything tested and it's just my 'normal'. Great. I wish they tell you about this in pregnancy magazines amongst all the articles about 'glowing' and feeling so radiant!

Try making sure the soap you use is PH balanced and not 'soap' based. I use Radox now and I seem not to have the same issues as before.

Thanks for the replies all. I saw my OB Monday, explained the symptoms and he just said yep thrush... told me to get the 6 day thrush treatment. I used that and it helped at the time it was aplied, no itchiness however after i finished the 6 day treatment I still have the itchiness and it is really getting on my nerves.

Had thrush once before a few years ago and it didnt last this long, is thrush just especially harder to cure in pregnancy? I use a ph balanced soap, I keep the area clean and dry it properly, I have changed the toilet paper to a hypoalergenic one (no dyes perfumes etc) cos I noticed it was acting up the most after I went to the toilet and wiped. I change underwear twice a day and wear just cotton undies. I dont know what else to do, should I keep going with the thrush treatment in the hope that its just a stubborn case because of the pregnancy. I should also say the discharge looks pretty normal, a whitish almost clear colour same as the last 14 weeks, there is a decent amount but this has been the case since the start of the pregnancy.

Thanks again all original.gif
