I'm looking for car seat recommendations. We are visiting relatives in Asia where car seats aren't commonly used (and cost a bomb). We want to bring one over from home to use for our son who will be four months old (he is kind of heavy and tall for his age, at the moment anyway). The car is a Volvo XC60. Something cheap and easy to transport would be great. Thanks.

Edited to add that we plan to leave the seat over there to use when we visit again, so a birth to four years type chair is what we are after.

Can you take your child's car seat with you?

You can buy a trolley to help you transport it, and it also doubles as a kind of stroller.

You can also get a car seat carry case that has straps like a backpack.

Hipod Cairo.
They're part of the Target Essentials range and about $110 from memory. My not quite 4 year old sits comfortably with room to spare in ours. They're also very compact, light weight and easy to install, we use the Cairo for our floater seats between cars as all three of our kids can use that one and it's not always the same child in the different cars.

Firstly double check that the car has anchor points. Cars can only be sold inAust if they have anchor points, but their o/s versions may not have them.

Personally I would not use an Aussie seat without anchor point as our seats are designed to be used with them and have to have them used to pass testing.

You may be better off ordering an EU or US seat which does not require anchor point to be delivered there.

For my kids when young overseas I would use an EU Cabriofix Capsule. That lasted my kids to 15-22m if age.

Thanks I hadn't thought about anchor points. I will ask FIL to see if his car has them. I know the dealers like Volvo etc. sell seats of their own brand over there, so I guess the cars must be compatible with European standards. Pity the seats are apparently $500!

If you end up without anchor points I can give you the direction is some online EU places that ship to Australia with appropriate seats. You may find it better to send directly to your family in Asia depending on where they are.
