Quite apart from the fact I got asked to bring "the deserts", I need some ideas.
circumstances: Flying down night of 28th. Family Xmas dinner is sometime on the 29th. Needs to be something I can do in the morning, after a quick shop with Mum Thinking a fruit platter, a Viennetta/icecream based thing and something else. I have +0 to cooking skill, but will have mum there for baking assistance. Would rumballs be a bit lame? Or "chocolate balls" since I'll have 2 young nieces there. |

As per the other thread for easy desserts, I suggest either an Eton mess or affogato. Neither require 'cooking' and can be assembled using good quality, store bought ingredients to create something fairly special.
Or order something from a gourmet bakery. |

I've made little mini Xmas puddings, so easy, just get a fruitcake and crumble it, mix with a bit of Brandy (or orange juice for kids), shape into balls, ice with icing sugar and lemon juice mixture and decorate with a tiny piece of glacé cherry to look like a little Xmas pudding.

Ice cream pudding. Good quality vanilla ice cream left to soften then mix through goodies of choice. This year I'm doing craisins, pistachios & dark choc chips. If adults only add a liberal glug of Tia Maria/Baileys/whatever. Re-freeze in a glad wrap lined pudding bowl then turn out onto a plate & cut. Or just scoop out.

Mini pavlovas
You can buy the mini cases at woolworths. Add vanilla cream and sprinkle crushed up cherry ripes and peppermint crisps. Then to finish off add a slice of strawberry on top. They are delicious |

They are delicious No one can finish a whole one - we all find them too sweet! That being said, I'm thinking a modified trifle/Eton mess with crushed pav bases, custard, fruit and jelly sounds pretty good. |

I'm making a couple of pavlovas this year as we are feeding a crowd and I have fresh farm eggs, so need to use them up. I just whip them up the night before and let them dry out in the oven overnight after they're cooked.

I'm doing this for the non-pudding eaters. Mine will be 1 litre Vanilla icecream, 14 roughly chopped Ferreros and 1-2 cups of frozen berries. |

Oh no, I was all set for desserts for Christmas but the 2 suggestions for ice cream puddings sound DELICIOUS!
I was going to suggest Trifle OP with a dash of Christmas with red/green jelly, red berries. One of my treats is mars bar slice ingredients rolled in to balls, drizzled with white melted choc and topped with red candy beads. I am also making a fruit tree. Styrofoam cone, toothipics, red/green grapes, strawberries, kiwi fruit (sliced, skin on), rockmelon star on top and gingerbread shapes throughout tree. Greenery placed at base - like mint for example. This post has been edited by ~Jane05~: 20/12/2012, 07:18 AM |
