My DS2 has been doing really well with new words, but from last Sunday onwards, all he will say is 'NO! Mum'.

I know its just a phase, and he's exactly the right age for it, but now there's no 'yes' and 'no', I can't tell what he wants - or doesn't want.

Hoping this phase doesn't last too long!!!

The phase may not last long but it does morph! Then the toddler negotiating steps in... Mummy if I pick up my toys then you will give me that machete, OK?
We try to circumvent no in this house and use other words, simply because no is such a closed and dominant response. T'will pass, but its a pain!

Ha ha. We went through the "No mummy" stage. Now we are at the "Not yet mummy" stage, usually when I ask him to do something he doesn't want to

We've just passed the no stage and moved into the in a minute stage. If I prompt him again he says "I said in a minute Mum." It's cute but frustrating.

Oh, it doesn't pass for quite a while, I'm afraid. DD (3) uses a variety of phrases which basically mean the same thing:

"No."
"I not."
"I can't."
"I don't want to."
"Stop!"
"No, Mummy!"

DBF's niece (4) loves the word "No."

My DS had a real "NO" phase (and I put that in capitals for good reason) at about 20-24 months, he is now 27 months, and what we tend to get now, when I say "DS I think you should .....", is "I don't think so" ohmy.gif

The problem is it sounds so darned cute coming out of his mouth that I can't be cross with him! biggrin.gif
