Garage Sale or send it to charity?

We have quite a lot of things I want tidy our house and move on things we do not use or need. I have ebayed some items such as clothes and books but it is very time consuming and you have the items waiting around until they sell. I was thinking about having a garage sale but I remember doing a couple years ago (pre kids) and it was quite a lot of work organizing everything for the day and deciding on prices and all. We look after our things so we have toys in very good condition and clothes too, some other bits from around the home that would be difficult to sell on ebay (lamp, kitchen things). We are tight on money otherwise I would just take it to the charity store but I am wondering if it would be too much work to keep selling on ebay or have a garage sale. I want some cash for our good used stuff but I also want to clear out some space. Do you think I should just donate it and be sone with or put the work into having a garage sale and make some cash.

Do you have a local buy and sell group on facebook you can join? I sell a lot of stuff on ours, you can get fast cash, no posting of items, and the stuff isnt sitting around for ages. Toys and kids clothing sell well on ours, as do homewears and large items of furniture.

I've never had a garage sale, but have sold things on ebay or gumtree (it's free to list, you can set/negotiate the price and people can come and pick it up) and really like getting something back for good quality items which I don't need anymore. On the other hand, I understand wanting to get rid of stuff immediately so that you have some space. Anyway, I vote for a garage sale!

I second the facebook buy and sell group idea, they are great I usually try selling on Ebay, Gumtree or Facebook, then whatever doesn't sell I give to charity
