It's our first time dealing with daycare.

Are we supposed to get gifts for the daycare attendants?

Our little man is 16mths and only attends one day per week. His carers are great, but is it really necessary?

It isn't necessary but it is nice to receive a little gift (many years working in day care).

Something as simple as a xmas tree ornament (I love mine that kids have given)

Or if you don't want to do a gift a nice card with kind words is always nice to get and makes you feel appreciated.

There's no 'rule' that says you have to, but we do, because they are some of the lowest paid workers in the country.

We buy something for the centre to share (wine or chocs generally) and also a $20 Myer gift voucher for each staff member that directly cares for my son. So that adds up to $80 in gift vouchers, which is quite a bit.

I guess it depends how long your son has been at the centre, and how many days he goes to, as well as your budget.

Last year I couldn't afford much so DD made a card, and we baked some brownies for the staff room.

I didn't feel I had to do it, I just wanted to because they were such a good centre and my DD had been there for almost three years. I would have loved to have got them all massage vouchers or something, but couldn't afford to at the time.

I bought a big box of chocolates for everyone to share last year, as by that time of year, we'd been through that many staff changes, I didn't even know who half the carers were.

This year DD chose 4 beautiful Christmas ornaments for her main carers she's had all year, and is particularly fond of.

We're giving Xmas plates filled with homemade White Christmas and salted caramel fudge. Also a card with a personal note to each carer.

I get my DD's kindy room a big box of chocolates to share, and I'm going to make them some xmas shortbread bickies

They look after her 4 days a week and my DD loves them.

I am going to make some homemade truffles for the carers in DS2's room & his main carer from last year, she is wonderful and much loved.

Dd2 is in FDC 5 days per week, I have always bought our carer a gift to the value of $50. Bit different to a centre with many carers. Dd1 took her kinder teacher a big box of chocolates:)

DD was full time and went to CC for 4 years. Each year I put together a box of coffe bags, flavoured teas, good hot chocolate mix, biscuits, kit kats, cherries, mango's and other fruit depending on what was good. the box would say "have a break on me"

They loved it.
