There is no polite way to put this, but literally overnight my DS's farts have really started stinking ! He's always been windy and has a bit of reflux but while the noise used to escape, there was never really any associated smell - until now. He's exclusively BF, I have not changed anything in my diet at all.
The only other change that's occurred is that rather than pooing twice or more a day, it's once a day or maybe once every two days (with the corresponding poosplosion). |

Is he on reflux meds? DD2 is on Losec (and fully BF) and her poos are now very explosive and on the nose, not like DD1's lovely fully-breastfed sweet smelling poos

No other signs that I can tell ? Not esp grouchy no temp etc.
It's been like this for about a week definitely nothing altered in my diet I gave him the tiniest amount of Panadol three nights ago for what seemed to be teething but it was way under the reccomended amount for his age and weight |

Has he just had his vaccinations or anything?
The rotavirus vaccine messed with my kids poo. I think poos being longer in between WOULD cause them to be smellier - but still a full time breastfed babies farts and poo should not be that smelly I'd have thought... |

I was taught at my ABA breastfeeding class that it's VERY normal for breastfed babies to only poo once every few days or even once a week once out of the newborn stage (i.e after 3 months). Downside of this of course is the longer it's in there, more gases form and the wind and poo itself can be stinkier than if it's moving through twice a day if that makes sense.

It's because he's not pooing as often. DS was breastfed and at between 3-5 months he stopped pooing daily and would poo about every 5 days. These poos would really stink.
It's apparently quite normal in breastfed babies, although I didn't know anyone else whose baby did this. Apparently even going 14 days between poos is normal! VERY smelly though! They do this when they're doing a lot of growing and use up pretty much everything in your breastmilk. I enjoyed the break from dirty nappies - the break was worth the poosplosion! |

I noticed DS's poos and farts became more stinky the less he poohed. He went from 2 or more inoffensive poos to only going once every 2-3 days when he was about 4 months old, and they were very pongy! Also exclusively breastfed, so sounds normal in my experience.
