Does anyone have any ideas for how to earn extra money over Xmas? It's a pretty hard time for many of us and bills are pouring in so any ideas would be great for everyone.

For us DH has no annual leave over Xmas and I am pretty stressed at what to do. I thought he had a week accrued but I have found out today that it's only 3 days. In the past his work have given him annual leave in advance but this year they have told him that they cannot do that. His work is closing down for a minimum of three weeks.

So far I have had a clean out and have sold a few household and kids items on Ebay, Totshop and Gumtree etc but have now run out of things to sell!

And I am still looking for work and have had no luck in getting anything this side of Xmas.

Ideas?

If you recieve ftb can u apply for a one off payment that you pay back fortnightly.
I have gotten them a couple of times when things are tight and it just comes out of your fortnightly payment

Not for money before Christmas, but you could maybe register for a few mystery shopping companies and be ready to start working for them early January (most have finished up for the year now). If you do work early January you would be paid by most companies sometime in February. Which obviously isn't ideal for your finances, but worthwhile considering if you don't get another job.

Have you tried buying things from op shops and selling on e-bay? I have no idea if that is worthwhile financially though, or too risky.

Could you advertise to babysit on New Year's Eve (leaving Hubby at home to look after your kids)?

I've heard about them before (in the past I have gotten small amounts). How much can you get at once?

I like the idea of New Years babysitting actually- great idea. But DH is not thrilled about having the kids to himself. Something to ponder though. I have just advertsied special Xmas house cleaning too and see if I get any takers off that.

I have claimed up to 1000 at a time. The payment back on that is $75 a fortnight BUT you dont have to borrow that much and you can borrow it in 2 or 3 lots. So say 500 to get you through xmas and then 500 later on etc. If you log onto centrelink and go to apply for advance payments on the left hand side it can be done in a matter of minutes. It usually takes about 3 days to go into your account and once it is all payed back over the 13 weeks you can reaaply again.

you could look at gumtree for people wanting house cleaners? I advertised on there and had a few people wanting the job - only $30-50 an hour and if you get a few a day it could add up?

Also i got quotes from people actually advertising cleaning and they wanted $100 + for an hour - so I advertised my own job and got plenty of hits

you have got the two most obvious to me -. babysitting, not just new yeas eve is great, and house cleaning.

house cleaners often take holidays at christmas when people want it most, and well babysitting is great, as one parent stays at home and looks after your kids, and the other gets paid to do the same with someone elses kids

I imagine there is a need for babysitters all through the holiday season.
