Well DH and I are putting together a list of names for number 2 and he has suggested Annalise. But wants it spelt 'properly'. The baby name book at home has:

Annalise and
Analise

But Behind the Name does not recognise either but has Anneliese. But is this pronounced Ann-a-lees or Ann-e-lees?

I have an Annalise.

I originially wanted to spell it Anneliese and my husband wanted Annalise... in the end I gave in. Gudrun is right, there are several acceptable ways to spell the name.

Either way you will need to spell it out for everyone so I suppose it doesn't really matter!

She is 7 now and often gets comments on how lovely her name is.

I'd pronounce it like Annalisa, but I know lots of people use the "a" sound for the first "e" but then finish off with the "lees" pronunciation.

This is my preferred spelling too. We came across someone with this name spelled this way in Belgium but she pronounced it Anna-lise but the second 'a' has a 'soft' lilt to it, obviously in keeping with their accent.

I really love it.

If a cat doesn't like you, then what's wrong with you?
It's such a gorgeous name original.gif

The ways I have seen it spelt are Annalise, Anneliese, Annaliese and Annelise. I'm not sure which one I like the most as they all look "correct to me" (except the last one). That doesn't really help you though does it? Lol

Such a lovely name! I really don't understand why it's not more common, but I'm glad it's not!

And you can never go wrong with a "behindthename" sanctioned spelling! wink.gif
