I already have a Canon 500D, I'm aware these models are pretty similar. If you got a brand new Nikon for free would you keep it as a spare or sell it?

TIA

I would keep it and use it as well. I have an old Canon S5IS with a few bits n pieces and every so often I get it out and play with it. I have my Nikon that I prefer but dont have the heart to part with my Canon. I have also kept my old point n shoots too.

Here we occasionally get new cameras for free. We will usually sell one if it doesn't provide something new or different.

(unless you have a partner who wants to go out and take photos with you).

I would take beautiful photos with it! biggrin.gif (My camera is broken and we can't afford to replace it right now)

But in your situation, I would probably sell it if it didn't provide have anything new or different from my existing camera.

What collection of Canon lenses do you currently own? How much money have you already invested in the Canon system? What lens did the Nikon come with? If you only have kit lenses for both systems then to me it is a no brainer and sell one and invest in just one system.

I would sell it. As the PP said, you don't want two systems that require different lenses.
