Hi All,

After suggestions on breakfasts for DD - 13 months.

Until recently DD has been drinking 200ml of formula and having either baby cereal with formula and fruit, vegemite on toast or a premade baby cereal - her favourite is Heinz Apple and Oatmeal.

I have changed her formula to Stage 3 - toddler and she'll have 3x 200ml when she is at home with me and 2x 200ml on daycare days. She pretty much refuses formula at daycare, I think it is because she can eat until she can eat no more!

We are currently trying to move to cows milk, DD not really interested in this and I have stopped the baby cereal and have been offering weetbix with cows milk and stewed fruit. DD spits it out and refuses anymore.

I'm interested in suitable cereals for the over 1's and I suppose I can make with formula if cows milk is refused or any other suggestions.

Thanks

Porridge has always gone over well with my quite fussy DD.
We also like
Scrambled eggs or omelette
Pancakes
French toast (can make up a batch, freeze in layers with baking paper between and pop in the toaster each day)

For DS, I mix some pureed apple or pear through his weetbix. Let's face it, weetbix by itself tastes like bland crap lol. And if she is used to pre-made cereal that might be what she is wanting - some sweetness to it.

We have toast, pancakes and porridge (just quick oats with boiling water microwaved for a minute, so pretty chunky).

Have you tried the baby cereal with cow's milk? Or the weetbix with formula? It could be that she doesn't like the weetbix, not that she doesn't like cow's milk!

If you're wanting to get more dairy in at breakfast and she is not keen on milk, you could try ricotta, cream cheese or cottage cheese on toast, ricotta hotcakes, breakfast muffins made with milk/yogurt, or potato pancakes with cheese (great made with leftover mash). The muffins/pancakes can be made in advance and frozen.

We do most of the above for my 13 month DS. He also likes mini-wheats as they have dried fruit in the middle so are a bit sweeter. I just soak them in mil one at a time so they don't all go to mush in the bowl and he slurps them down. Have you tried yoghurt with some fruit in it? Porridge and anything eggy are hits in our house.

What do YOU eat for breakfast?

At 13 months your child can essentially eat like an adult (barring very spicy foods).

Sit down together and eat the same breakfast together. And perhaps try soy milk if she doesn't like cows milk, there's no need to buy expensive formula at this age!

Completely agree. I am of the opinion that toddler formula is a complete marketing hype. It is sweet tasting hence why they love it to the detriment of 'normal' food. My DS is 12.5 mo and I am currently weaning off his morning formula (normal stage 2) by gradually adding more and more cows milk each week. We are now at only 50ml formula (1 scoop) and 50ml cows milk. He is still hungry after that. If he drank 200ml of formula then I would struggle to get him to eat any breakfast. So try reducing the milk/formula quantity.

My DS likes All Bran! No idea why except that it is what I eat and he quite often refuses his own meals and eats mine (even if they are the same!). How about adding banana or blueberries? I love both of these on my breakfast cereal and so do my kids.

My boys love toast with avocado, french toast, scrambled eggs or plain natural yoghurt with chopped fruit for breakfast.
