Hi everyone.
Ive got a couple of questions im hoping some of you may be able to answer. #1 - the last couple of nights, just before i have a shower or go to bed i need to go to the bathroom. When i go it stings a little whilst im going and for about 5/10 mins after. I know i struggle to consume more the 750ml water a day, but i also have a few a few bowls of cereal with lots of milk and sometime a can of sugar free fizzy drink.Could this be caused from not drinking enough water?Is it safe to have a ural every now n again whilst pregnant? #2 - since falling pregnant 11 weeks ago i have struggled going to the toilet. I dont feel constipated as every now n again ill pass a little dropping, but still defiantly doesnt feel right. Is there anything you ate or drank to help you go to the bathroom? I was told by my dr to take a liquid medication from the chemist however i dont find it useful as i only pass a little dropping here n there :-( Thanks for your help =) |

I thought we should be drinking 2 litres + daily, depending on your build.
Water is extremely important for your bub. Exercising and eating a lot of fruits helps. |

The more you drink the easier you will find it will be to do a poo as you are more hydrated.
ATM drinking water literally makes me gag but I still do it as I know in the long run it is good for me and bubs. |

I would speak to your caregiver about the stinging.
As for the constipation, yes early on it is a bit difficult. Are you taking a supplement with a lot of iron? As ar as food, I drink pear juice daily, eat dates and prunes. I some times take lactulose, but it can take a few days to work. I find keeping up the maintenance easier. Actually, I drink a combo of cranberry and pear juice, as I also have bladder issues, but they are different from yours. The cranberry juice was reccomended by my physio. So do see your GP, as infection is not the best. Good luck op. I always find the first trimester hardest, it is difficult to get used to the body adjustments. |

Sounds like you could have a urinary tract infection? I would see your GP about that. I'm afraid the answer to your questions, as pp's have said, is more water. Drinking water means you'll need to pee more and can help keep UTI's away. It will also help with the constipation.

GP for your problem #1.
With the constipation, yes I'm struggling, and I do drink around 2 litres a day. I have diagnosed IBS as well, which doesn't help. Pear juice, dried apricots and benefibre twice a day has helped me a lot. I've dropped off on my "maintenance" over the last week or so, and I'm paying the penalty for it again now Good luck. |

I have an operation 15 months ago to lose weight . A sleeve gasterctomy. They took 3/4 of my stomach and now I find it hard to drink a lot of water.

I will keep trying If you are having urinary symptoms you should see your doctor to see if you have a UTI however you do sound dehydrated. Your gastrectomy will stop you drinking large quantities of water in one go but it won't stop you drinking frequently so you should carry a drink bottle with you and sip on it constantly. Your constipation also should improve with an increase in fluid intake. Good luck. |

Along with the water, I find that untoasted muesli in the morning with bran, yogurt and fruit helps a lot. Sometimes I have something else for breakfast and the constipation comes back quickly. Maybe give that a try?

1) Well, you're never going to have proper bowel movements if you aren't drinking enough water. 750mls isn't enough. Your body is pumping so much more blood around and you're growing a baby human inside you so your body needs plenty of water.
I struggled drinking plain water while I had m/s, so I made sure I drank sparkling mineral water which helped me stay hydrated and helped my nausea at the same time. Milk isn't going to hydrate you enough. Drinking water is important during pregnancy as it can help you with cramps, water retention, keeping your liver, kidneys and bladder healthy. If you are only passing small bowel movements I would say you are constipated. I was like that for a while and thought I was ok. I ended up having really bad cramps for a few days and eventually everything caught up again (Sorry, TMI). But I would definitely, DEFINITELY recommend drinking water. Your baby needs it. 2) Prune juice works wonders for me. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Some people think it tastes bad and would recommend pear juice, but I kind of like the taste and it works so I would definitely recommend it. Also make sure you are having enough fruit and veggies, fibre and WATER. This will all help everything move better for you. Good luck. If you still aren't sure I would talk to your GP. They may recommend something. |
