I just don't understand what it will take for restrictions on gun ownership in the US.

Interesting points in this article.

Terrifying - we're in California, nowhere near the shooting, but it makes me appreciate our gun control laws and attitude in Australia. I've already talked to friends here about this and they just do NOT get the fact that such ridiculously easy access to guns allows any crazy person to get their hands on an assault rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition allows and just up and decide to go on a shooting spree. sad.gif

All I can think of is the children. How terrified they must have been. You think you are safe in school. It's hortific and heartbreaking.

This is just heartbreaking. Those poor children. That poor community.

It's time the US took guns out of homes. It's enough. Surely this time it's enough.

So sad... I've been teary after reading this, and just want to hug my kids.

Maybe this time there will be some law changes?

My thoughts are with all those affected.

It was time so long ago.

So sick of the unhinged evil in the world.

24 hours is never enough.......
22 children were hurt by a knife wielding man in China today. Every society has people in pain or in need. But the numbers of dead and injured speak for themselves today: with a knife - 22 hurt; with a gun 29 dead. If Obama does nothing else with his presidency in his last term, I would like to see him take on the NRA and at least try to make sure that this kinds of events are fewer, less frequent, and far less deadly.

I was just talking to my DH (who is American) about this...he just doesn't get how strict gun control is necessary either. He kept saying it would be too hard and take a long time to sort out, and I kept saying no matter how long it takes, it would be worth it *shakes head*. He also tried the line "if they really want a gun, they'll get one". But it would make it that much harder to access, arghhh!!

Just tragic.
