DD still needs 2 naps a day but sometimes I struggle to fit the afternoon nap in as she can sleep up to 2 hours for her morning nap.
Would you suggest I wake her say after an hour and half in the morning, so I can get her back down by 2:30pm after a good period of being awake? I always wake her at 4pm so she goes back down at 7pm. Suggestions please. She wakes anywhere between 6 and 7am, it's when she wakes at 7am I struggle to get her second nap into the day. TIA |

You can wake her in the morning to make your day more manageable - there is nothing wrong with that

Hey OP,
You can open the door and let her wake naturally. I would suggest you just let her sleep 45 mins to an hour in the morning say from 9am to 10am... then go down for big sleep for 2 hours say from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. That way she'll be really tired out and ready to sleep by 7pm. You may have to put her to bed a bit earlier say at 6.30pm. But whatever works best for you is fine... We have done this when we dropped the third nap of the day. It definitely makes a difference to their overall sleeping pattern. Good Luck! |

I have had to structure DD3's naps around school drop off and pickup. She wakes around 7-7.30, backdown around 9-9.15ish (after morning drop off). Sleeps until 10.30ish. Back down around 12.30-1. If she wakes before 2, I try for another nap after school pickup (around 4). Otherwise, she is wake until bedtime at 7, as she won't do the third nap.
Have you tried putting her to bed earlier for her morning nap? Some babies do tend to like their morning nap early, almost straight after breakfast. |

How can you not fit the second nap in? At that age my little one would wake at 6:30-7ish, first nap at around 9-11, then lunch play back down around 2-230?

Thanks everyone. I'll give your suggestions a go, especially putting her down a bit earlier for her morning nap.
Lyn86, I struggle to sometimes fit it in if she has a big morning nap because she likes a longer awake period of at least 3 hours before her arvo nap. For instance this morning she didn't go down until 10:10 and woke at 12:10 and wasn't ready for her arvo nap until after 3pm (sometimes later) and I have to wake her at 4pm at the latest otherwise she doesn't settle for 7pm bed time. I guess I'm concerned that a short arvo nap is not conducive to settling at bed time. I don't know really... I reckon putting her down earlier in the morning should help |

Your little DD is on exactly the same routine as my 12mth old DD Lucy's Mum! What I do is wake her up if she's not awake by 12 and then put her back down at around 3.15 for only one sleep cycle so she's up by no later than 4. I wouldn't bring your morning sleep forward - I expect this will end up being my daughter's only sleep of the day so I plan on making it later and later. Eventually I think she may end sleeping from11.30 ish until 2.00 ish and then be awake until bedtime at 7pm. I'm actually looking forward to this earlier bedtime because at the moment my DD is often not tired enough to go to bed until 7.30-8pm.

My 10mth old wakes around 6am and goes back down at 8.30am (sometimes earlier) where he sleeps for 1.5/2hrs.
He goes back down for his avo sleep at 1.30pm where he generally sleeps for 2hrs sometimes close to 3! His bedtime is around 6pm, sometimes later but generally he is wanting bed at 6ish even if he woke at 4pm. I would try and put her down earlier for her morning sleep and the same for the afternoon sleep. I was finding when I put my DS down too late in the avo he wouldn't sleep for long and would wake very cranky. The above is what he has been doing this week! The week before he was all over the show. I'm finding each week can be different at the moment. The 10mth age seems to be an interesting one for a variety of reasons. |
