There is some evidence that acupuncture works. I did this preventatively over the last few weeks of prgnancy and was on time, but maybe I would have been anyway...

My Ob told me that the only method which had any scientific basis was to have sex. Apparently the hormones in semen can have an effect. I was still induced, but you might like to give it a try...?

Is there a reason you need to be induced?
How many weeks are you? Can you just not wait for labor to happen spontaneously? |

Raspberry leaf tea? Pineapple? Lots of walking and fitball bouncing? Sex? One of my cousins swore by a big meal of Chinese followed by a long, long walk. I've heard others say similar, but curry. I walked and walked and walked and walked and bounced and bounced and bounced and bounced on the fitball. Both constantly all through my third trimester - I went into labour 10 days ahead of my EDD. Whether the walking and bouncing helped, who knows? But I'll be doing it again this time with the hope it does! Good luck OP

I don't think there ARE any absolute proven methods. So many people say "oh I did this and went into labour" but given that most of them are at or past their due date, odds are they were due to go anyway.
I know that the day before I was due I ate most of a fresh pineapple since that's meant to do something....I'd been at 3 cms for 4 days but no signs of labor. My water broke that night, but 12 hours later I STILL hadn't gone into labour, not even a twinge. Needed a drip in the end. ETA I think the long walk definitely couldn't hurt. I couldn't do it myself due to SPD but lots of women think it helps when things start up, especially when you do the gutter-walk (One foot up on the gutter, one on the road) This post has been edited by redkris: 13/12/2012, 03:17 PM |

At least a cupful of semen is needed to have any effect tho That's a hell of a lot of semen! If a man on average ejaculates 5-10ml per ejaculation, and a cup is 250ml, that's 25-50 ejaculations. I guess it depends on whether the semen all has to be administered at once, or can it be spread over the next week? Anyway OP, I was also of the understanding that the only method with any kind of evidence base - and it's still limited - is acupuncture. Good luck! |
