I just got a 10 month old foster child, who doesn't respond to her own name. I haven't had loads of experience with this age before, so wonder what is normal. Thanks

Mine does, he has for quite awhile. Does she respond to anything you say?

Yes, she is very interactive. But if she isn't looking at you and you call for her, she never turns her head or responds

My son didnt at this age (I remember going for our MCHN check up and mentioning it) - you could get her ears checked? My son ended up having glue ear.

Yes mine does and usually 'answers' with a 'Huh' or other grunt.
But all kids are different, so I wouldn't be concerned. She's 10.5 months and not crawling, she's my 3rd girl so very interesting to see how they all reach milestones in their own time. |

Mine did by that age but maybe don't worry too much. They are very fast learners at that age so use her name a lot in context as you talk to her over the coming days and weeks and see what happens.
Good luck and let us know how she goes. |

My 9mth old only does when he wants to, he's usually far too interested in getting into mischief to listen to me. But the second I ask him if he wants food/ask if he is hungry...whinge, whinge, whinge and he comes crawling at speed lol.

My almost 10 month old does unless he's interested in doing something else. I actually said to DH the other day maybe I should get his hearing checked - but then he responds to the slightest noises, like a key in the front door, if he's not engrossed by something else he's doing or watching. I probably wouldn't be too concerned if she's responding most of the time to sounds.

Yes, both mine have by then (but only just) BUT it is a response to something they have heard over and over and over and over and over again for 10mths. If your fostered baby has had a rough start and given very little attention then chances are she hasnt actually heard her name very much so her name is just another 'word' that she is yet to figure out.
It is hard to judge not knowing the full circumstances of her previous 10mo. |

every child is different. Considering she is in foster care- you really don;t know what she has been through IYKWIM? Also some people call their child pet names rather than their name also.. like bubby, baby etc.
