Hi all, This is my first post so please be nice I came off the pill mid-September (three months ago). I have my withdrawl bleed but have not had a period since. I am not pregnant. From my googling I see that lots of women take a while to get back to their normal cycles...but I am impatient! So I was hoping you could tell me 1. At what stage should I be concerned and see my doctor? 2. Is there anything you did to make your cycles more regular? (accupuncture etc) Thanks in advance.

I can't speak from experience, as I stopped taking it years ago & can't remember, but have heard a lot of people in these forums say 6 months, and some saying up to a year. Possibly depends on which one also, due to different strengths. Search BCP (birth control pill) in these forums & you may be able to find some past conversations that may help Of course, it is probably possible to get pregnant still, but probably makes it a bit hard to predict ovulation, etc; for TTC. Good luck!

Hi Jag,Yes I agree this is a frustrating wait. After my withdrawal bleed, it was 70 days until my next period, then they have been fairly regular-ish since then, next 2 were 39, then 32, 36, 35. I don't know of any proper time to get yourself checked out. I would just guess whatever you feel you can live with. Also I can't help on anything to speed it up! I just waited.... Just makes me appreciate coming off months before I did want to start to try, and know next time around to not go back on the pill either. It's frustrating, the whole process is! But many others are going through the same and are here to listen and help where they can Good luck!

I took vitex as soon as I went off the pill for about 3 months no BFP but my cycles became regular straight away. You could give it a go? I stopped taking it when I was confident my cycles were back to normal.

What was your cycle like prior to going on the pill? If you possibly have PCOS and already had irregular cycles then the time you spent on the pill won't have fixed it unfortunately. Having a Dr prescribe ten days of progesterone will induce a bleed which may reset your cycle. (but it won't fix underlying hormonal issues)

Hi Jag Your story sounds similar to mine. I came off the pill in april/may and had a withdrawal bleed. I then had nothing at all for five months. I saw my GP at 3 months and he was condescending telling me it was all fine. I swapped doctors at five months and saw a woman who specialises in women fertility. I had all the tests done (bloods, US, breast check, pap smear) and all results were normal. I tried acupuncutre, cutting out intense exercise, eating more full fat dairy etc. I was then sent to a fertility specialist at 7 months. My FS told me that she did not think I would ovulate on my own, cause unknown, for a while still (i guess she looked at my internal US and this is how she knew) and then put me on clomid First round I had two eggs mature but they did not release on their own (luetal phase too short!?) and then next cycle (this cycle) i am on clomid again with HCG injections to ensure ovulation. I am 25 and very fit and healthy. I did not foresee these issues! I would go to your GP and ask for bloods now, thyroid, prolactin etc. I think get on it early. Waiting the six months absolutely tore me apart and even now its all still such a guessing game. I would be persistent and make sure you get the answers you want. I would also suggest a female GP, as I found my male one did not sympathise at all.

Thankyou so much for your replies ladies, makes me feel less alone!
I am going to pop over to the health food shop today to grab some vitex. I will try that over the holiday season and if that has no affect I will make an appointment to see my GP in January.
@nothing Unfortunately I don't remember what my periods were like before going on bc, as I was 16 and didn't pay much attention. I did get my period quite late though.
@Lauren how scary, you do sound so similar to me. Thanks for the advice, I will look for a new GP if mine doesn't have anything useful to say!

I thought I would update in case someone going through the same thing comes across this thread - I know I read dozens of similar threads in many different forums!
I got my period yesterday, nearly four months off the pill.
I have been taking vitex and women's balance daily since 20 December, so not sure if they helped or it would have happened at the same time regardless. But definitely give them a go if you are in the same situation.
