Hi there I have been diagnosed with mild Hyperemesis. I am currently taking Zofran 8mg wafers/tablets 3 x a day. I have gone from vomiting and chronic nausea 24 hrs a day to just chronic nausea and the occasional vomit. Im not getting dehydrated anymore but very much struggling with the nausea. Does anyone know of anything else I can try?? I have tried ginger, accupressure bands etc. I am trying to care for my toddler on my own and am unable to do even the most basic chores. My DH works crazy hours and is my only support but gets things pretty ready for my DD before he leaves for the day so I can just lay on the couch while she plays etc. Im getting very down and just struggling. Really would appriciate any advice on other things to try.

Restavit. It's over the counter and a part of the royal women's hospital protocol for treating hyperemesis. You may have trouble with pharmacists not wanting to give it to you so maybe mention that or take a print out of the protocol with you.

I think there is a b6/ restavit combination you can take.

But the things you have mentioned are basically it for most of us. There was nothing much else. YOu try to stay hydrated and eat what you can. I had to eat every 2 hours or things got worse.

I mean theres all the cracker foods but most of us were long past those.

Have you had a look at the HER Foundation homepage? There's a lot of great med info there. Some HG mums find a combo of meds can help and it's a case of tweaking until you find something that works. For nausea I actually found an over the counter medication called Restavit taken with vitamin b6 twice a day helped somewhat, while the zofran helped with the actual puking. Good luck, hope you find something that works xx

Thanks guys for your replies. The zofran is helping with the vomiting side of things just not the nausea. I will look into the restavit and b6. Does that cause drowsiness?? Im already pretty wiped out with the wafers so dont want to be much more when I have to care for my toddler. Arghhh this is just so awful. Will be having a scan tomorrow to try to find the source of some bleeding but this will most definately be my last bub. My dr said if the zofran doesnt work or I start vomiting hospital will be the only option for further treatment. That scares me alot.

Yes you get IV rehydrated in hospital. I had a couple of trips. it is so hard isn't it? You really have my sympathy. The nausea is just so debilitating.

I am another one surviving on restavit. It's the only thing that has stopped me vomiting AND kept my nausea at bay.

The only thing that worked for me was giving birth.

Vit B, ginger, sea sickness bands, crackers, staying hydrated, etc, didn't work.

I just looked up restavit and it says it's a insomina cure. I've never heard of it, how does it help with nausea? It's an antihistamine and not recommend during pregnancy...

bluenomi, my Ob recommended Restavit and I will admit to being concerned when I saw the blatant "do not take if pregnant" label on the packet, though the chemist also said it was pregnancy safe and a morning sickness remedy.

Yes, it is a treatment for insomnia - the side effect from the tablet is a good night's sleep.

Not being a doctor, I don't know how the active ingredient in Restavit counteracts my MS, but I do know that my MS is directly linked to being tired. Exhaustion makes me much, much worse.

This page has been helpful to me to explain the various MS treatments:
