Hi all, I have just passed my admissions test to get into tafe to study aged care. If all goes well and I get an offer then I have to pay 100% of the course fees before the term starts. There was an option of paying it over 8 weeks if really needed but not just for anyone.

I'm in WA and going through central tafe. I noticed when I applied it said around $5,800 for the 6 month course.
but I just read a post on here that someone was going to study the exact same course through a different place and it was only $840.
Does anyone know what is normal? I've never studied before so have no idea what to expect regarding fees.

Thanks in advance.

I think you might be able to do the course cheaper through OTEN but it's distance so not sure how you are learning via that method.

Im not sure if that link worked im juggling a few kids at the moment but it seems it may be a little cheaper.

I think you may be reading the information incorrectly. According to the Central TAFE website, the course will cost $976

http://www.central.wa.edu.au/Courses/Healt...okieCheck=true#

(I work for a company that offers Adv. Dip. courses in another field and we charge less for these than the price you quoted for a Cert 3, that's why I checked original.gif )

Oh, and good luck! An ex is a carer, who has worked in a variety of settings, and he has always enjoyed the work. No two days are the same, that's for sure.

Thanks fluster , I see what I did... International students is $5500. Whoops.

I hope I get an offer. I was told there were more applicants for the amount of places so may not get accepted. My second option is education support though which I will end up doing one day anyway. Widen my opportunities.

Just a heads up for anyone thinking about studying at TAFE next year.. at the moment TAFE fees are 'capped' at around $1000 or $300 if you have a concession card.

As of 2014 TAFE fees will be run on the same model as University fees and a HECS scheme will be in place. The fees will go right up as the 'cap' will be removed and student will be expected to pay/defer payment, for the whole course cost -
(which as OP discovered when she thought she was going to have to pay OS student fees is A LOT!)

If you want to study cheaply at TAFE 2013 is the time!

What happens if you enrol in a course during 2013 but it doesnt finish til say end of 2014 will you still be paying fees capped or will you have to swap over to the hecs type scheme?

Also what about if you're upskilling from whatever the highest qualification you have received? I thought that there was some sort of government funding for that?

I always found it odd that Tafe is so cheap! It costs me $200 for a full year of nursing study at Tafe.. Maybe if they up the price it will stop a lot of people dropping out!

Op, I have worked in aged care for the last few years. Some aged care facilities will employ you and pay for your study. Have a look around.
