How is everyone dealing with Christmas parties (work, friends, family) if you haven't started telling people you're pregnant yet?

I don't want to give myself away (by not drinking) as we're only just on 6 weeks and haven't started tellling anyone yet.

I used to have a vodka, lime & soda without the vodka, or a white wine spritzer, with a teeny tiny bit of wine and loads of soda (but you could hold the wine).

You could have mocktails and have softdrink in a short glass so it looks like you're having an alcoholic beverage. Or you could say that the alcohol doesnt mix well with some medication your on

I decided to have a fake medical problem - said I had a stomach ulcer and was on antibiotics with strict instructions to not mix with alcohol.
Didn't feel great lying but are less than 12 weeks and not ready to tell work yet

Another lady on here recommended lemonade in a short glass with lime. Would look like your were drinking. I normally drink champagne so not sure how it will go. Have office Christmas party this Friday so will see what happens.

Depending on where the party is you can get an empty wine bottle and refill it with something non alcoholic so it still looks like you are drinking.

I just use the old designated driver excuse. Or you could say you think you're coming down with a cold and don't want to make it worse? Or, if it's a really hot day, just say that you'll feel too dehydrated drinking alcohol

Unfortunately in Australia there is a real peer pressure system surrounding drinking . It's a shame that just saying 'I don't feel like it today' is not enough of a reason for some people (even though sometimes that's the truth, with or without pregnancy)

I came across this on the weekend at a function and just said "too many calories in alcohol and I'm trying to watch my weight" - noone questioned me after that LOL

At recent celebrations I have been drinking lime and soda in a short glass and no one batted an eye.

We had our town xmas party last night. My excuse for not drinking, 1- I am on he commitee and had to help organise etc, 2- I have 2 children to run after, 3- On a health kick to lose weight and Alchol contributes to weight gain in the stomach region, proven fact.

I am 6 weeks 2 days and pbviously showing so hiding it is going to be fun but I wear a lose wrap style top and leggings, if anyone did notice they didn't say anything. We have had roomer after roomer about me being pregnant over the last years so I think most people wont say anyhting until I announce it. Thankfully we are 12 weeks the week before school goes back, my scan is on the tuesday and school goes back on the wednesday here.
