DH works from home and on Tuesdays he looks after DS (2yrs 8mths). One of their daily Tuesday chores is to go to the Post Office to empty the PO Box and usual post and/or pick up some parcels. It’s a small Post Office in Sydneys Inner West and is owned/run by a lovely husband and wife team.

They always give DS a biscuit or a week toy (freebie type things that have fallen off magazines etc). Anyway today they have given him a Christmas present – it is quite a large box all wrapped up in christmas paper with a card attached with “Dear DS, we hope you have a fantastic Christmas, your friend X and Y”. He has to take it home and put it under the tree and open it on Christmas morning.

DH and I are blown away – it is such a lovely gesture and we are both really touched.

I guess my lovely part of christmas is that our local Pharmacy each year have a letter box in store (and little printed pieces of paper) where you can send a letter to Santa. Each year Santa then writes the kids a Christmas Card each and encloses a little slip of paper which is a voucher for a little chocolate treat... Often there will be a reference to something on the letter they have sent etc and it has been this highlight of my kids Christmas since we moved here 6 years ago.....

Not Xmas, but one year we were stuck in the most god awful traffic. We let a car go in front of us, and after he pulled in front of us the passenger jumped out and came over. It was Chinese new year and he handed me two traditional red envelopes and said they were for our 2 kids who were in the car, and wished us luck for the new year. Inside was $20 each - the kids were stoked!!! And always remind us of our manners on the road!

DH's pub does a collection for presents for kids in hospital.

One card had $100 inside and a note to say they hoped this passed the time faster.

DD's went shopping with me to buy our own gifts and DD2 (2.9) picked up a big ball and then put it back when DD1 (4.5) said "the sick kids in hospital won't be able to play with that - they are in bed, sick, and can't go to the park". So my little 2 yr old chose a small ball that lights up when you bump it because "it would fit in bed to be cuddled by the sick kids in hospital". so sweet for little kids to understand that some have it worse than they do.

Last year on christmas eve i went to the local shopping centre (which is known for it's bogans and trouble makers) and withdrew 700 dollars out the bank. as i was walking off i must have dropped it thinking i had put it in my purse, but i had really put it next to my purse. a lovely teenage couple chased me down to hand it back to me.

Today I got to make someone elses day...

A lovely student of our organisation approached us to complete a vocational program to help her career. We normally do not offer payment plans but I agreed and the student was paying it off at $50 a month. She had $300 remaining from her $500 fee as of this morning.

She rang to ask if she could skip the payments this month and in January as she can't afford the $50 this month or next with Christmas and school returning in January as she is a single parent.

I took a look at the file, she was always on time or early with her payments and noted she had finished and mentioned to her I will send her Qualification in the post today did she want a pdf copy also by email to help her career. She replied that she thought we would withhold the qualification until full payment was made I told her no that she can have it and to consider it paid in full forget the $300 balance that at my discretion I can waiver fees in certain circumstances and to consider it a graduation and christmas gift from all of us here.

She was so honest and sincere. I was really touched. I hope it makes her Christmas easier and back to school purchases easier. It can't have been easy to call and ask and I think she must be a tremendous mother. I hope she gets the job this qulaification makes her elegible to apply for.
