In QLD the vaccine was free to both parents and their immediate family (grandparents etc) until just before my son was born in September. Because we were too late to get the freebie vaccine we had to go get a prescription to get our vaccines ($60 each from the pharmacy!) and the nurses station at my GP's office administered them. Thank goodness my GP bulk bills.
If you get a rebate or are covered by your health fund for your GP and prescriptions then you may get something back, otherwise it's all pay-for-play now. |

I didn't get it because my blood tests showed reasonable immunity, we also don't live in an area that is considered high risk. We have all immunisations done at the family gp, and because both years we went well over the safety net early in the 12 months we now get 85% of the costs back, so we pay $65 each up front and rebate is $59... Regardless of whether its a immunisation appointment or otherwise...
We have top private health cover and never had anything back from them... |

I was lucky as I went to get mine 3 weeks after the free shots ended but luckily my doctor had a few vaccines left so it was free.
He did say that the reason it's no longer free is due to the minimal benifits being gained but I wasn't willing to risk it. We made anyone who planned to come in contact with us before DD was immunised herself have the vaccine. It's a no vaccine, no cuddles and kisses rule. |
