Hi,

I just tested last Thursday 6th and discovered a very faint second line and thought that I could be pregnant! The next day Friday 7th, I tested again with First Response and a little bit darker but still faint. I proceeded to medical center to get a blood test. Doctor said to come back the following day which is Saturday but I wasn't able to return.

Today Monday I rang the clinic but doctor is not there so receptionist put me a lady who will read my results (not sure if she was another doctor or assistant!). She said my hcg reading is in the "middle" which means that I could be pregnant or I could not be pregnant. Told me to come back this Thursday or Friday to see if it increased.

Now I am really confused because I've always thought blood tests are reliable and that, the presence of hcg alone confirms that I am pregnant. She could have told me, the reading was too low, if this does not rise or increase in the next days, there is possibility the pregnancy will not happen etc. etc.. This is my expectation. Instead, I'm left hanging as to whether I am or not.

I forgot the exact figure of my hcg.. I was in a hurry on the phone so I fogot to ask. I think she said 15...or something.

I have read so many columns and usually the girls are advised to go to doctor to do a blood test and it confirmed. This time with me, it left me hanging and confused....

I will come back in Thursday and hopefully by Friday they can tell me if I'm pregnant or not.

Sorry to hear you are in limbo land. Sounds low your hcg is low so the only way to know if it's going to be viable is to wait and see if your levels rise. There is a lot of waiting around isn't there? Hang in there.

Hope things works out for you.

Keep doing home tests if it will reassure you. I've never had a blood test to confirm pregnancy and I have 3 children. I only had hcg tests when I was miscarrying to confirm that the levels were going down prior to D&C.

You just had your blood test too early, thats all. Its best to wait until your period is late and the hcg has risen more original.gif

There is really no need to go to a GP to have your pregnancy confirmed by bloods. I think it's best until you get a solid good line on a home test and then go to a GP who will get you to pee on a stick again just so they can see it for themselves.

Bloods are becoming more popular, largely due to forums but in reality they are just not necessary unless you're tracking for some reason (recurrent miscarriage, difficulty conceiving, fear of ectopic etc.) and can often leave people feeling very concerned.

Also many GP's don't really know all that much about pregnancy hormones and so many get told "your levels are too low, you'll likely lose the baby" when quite simply it's just very early in the pregnancy and HCG has just started to increase.

Only thing you can do is wait and see what happens.

Yeah I never had my HCG checked. I just waited until I was late and tested the day I was officially late. Home tests are pretty accurate especially if you test after you are late. Im but sure about the levels , but maybe you conceived later than you thought and they are wanting the levels to rise. BTW - the second line on the test is mostly always fainter than the control line. Mine always were.

I never had a BT either. Just solid BFPs at 11DPO, went to the GP at 6 weeks (DD) and 8 weeks (DS). GP didn't even bother getting me to POAS once I told her I'd done multiple tests, as I had no history of any problems.

The first 'real' confirmation of pregnancy I had each time was the NT scan at 12 weeks!

My guess is that its probably really early. I thinkto get a positive result they like to see over 25. My GP works on over 50. My levela have always been low at the beginning and then rise normally. The miscarriages that I have had started out fine too so and then had issues later down the track.

Try not to worry before seeing the next result

This, while the pkt says they can detect HCG of 25 or something I believe a POAS test will actually pick up a HCG at 5, you are only considered pregnant at 25 though (and just pregnant) so whilst you have HCG that doesn't mean you are "pregnant" if that makes sense.
