Xmas Day, family crap - Ideas?

Not looking forward to Xmas Day this year. Our usual lovely family Xmas (hosted by MIL) has been postponed to 6 January so my interstate BIL can make it. My parents and brother usually pop in in the morning before heading to my estranged brother's for Xmas, and we are not invited there. I should say that celebrating Xmas is fairly new for my parents, we don't have a family tradition there. I am feeling so depressed about this, and my family situation, and why should Xmas be postponed just for my BIL? Please help me to regain my sanity. If the weather is bad, then what about playing some board games with the family? Make some yummy snacks and have a laugh.

Personally i dont see an issue with the family Christmas being postponed so BIL can be there. Isnt Christmas about family? That does not mean that you cant celebrate Christmas though. I hate being on the road at Christmas (so I dont!). We sit around, eat food, enjoy our gifts, watch a movie together, swim in the pool, kick the ball with DS etc.

Maybe host your own Christmas day - invite your MIL and FIL, they could come even if the family wants to wait to do the big extended christmas day thing. Or just have your own lovely little Christmas. Include some new board games in the gifts. Do up a basket of goodies and sit and play games and eat yummy stuff in the afternoon. Get a couple of new movies - a new movie to watch as a family, with some popcorn and a slushy (buy slushies cups or a slushy machine) Beach with new beach toys if it's nice, or something fun in the backyard.

We like to play with our new toys or read our new books. And we always have christmas lunch rather than dinner to break up the day. Something else I have done is hold back a present to open after lunch just for a bit of fun. I made it a family game so that we could all play it right away. If you are more sporty types maybe you could set up a game of badminton or go for a walk. Pack up a picnic from your lunch leftovers and have dinner out in the open somewhere. Go for a christmas lights drive on christmas night.

this year my hubby will be sleeping off a nightshift and getting ready for a night shift on christmas night. my xmas day will consist of waking up to hubby getting home, us opening pressies, then brekky and saying good night to hubby while the kids play and enjoy whatever santa has brought them. then i think i might just go and buy myself some new cds to listen too or a music dvd to watch and some drinks and nibblies for myself. a quick phone call to my lovely sister and an afternoon siesta before getting hubby up to have our christmas dinner with us.

What's to stop you doing two Christmases? One on the day and then another celebration when BIL arrives.

Our Christmas has been postponed to Boxing Day for SIL and family. My family are all currently living OS, and only the ILs do Christmas anyway. We're planning to chill out at home, play with the new toys, maybe pop out to the local park, and have some friends over for dinner Christmas night. Maybe plan a nice light brunch to have with your parents and brother, and then go have fun with your kids.
