I breastfed DS for 6 weeks and I remember waking up and my bed being soaked in breastmilk.
So from then on I had to wear a bra to bed and nursing pads to soak up the leaking milk. Did that happen to you? Is that just a fact of life for breastfeeding mothers or were you eventually be able to sleep without a bra and not have milk leak everywhere? DD is 10 months old and didn't have a very big feed before bed last night, so by the middle if the night my left breast was FULL and leaking everywhere.
It still happens a fair bit overnight. I'll only leak during the day if I'm feeding her and have a let down... the side I'm not feeding on will start to leak. I mostly still wear a (very loose) bra to bed. I'm so used to it now I don't even notice. I rarely wear breast pads any more, haven't for months. I will usually only leak if she hasn't had a good feed before going to bed. This post has been edited by HurryUpAlready: 09/12/2012, 11:21 PM |

I wore breast pads and bras every day and night breastfeeding both my kids. Both kids breastfed for 18 months each.
I made a ton of milk and co-slept with both my kids so it became a way of life. I recently weaned DS2 and I LOVE not wearing a bra!!!!!!!! |

I have a huge supply so DEFINITELY wear bras and nursing pads for the first few months, but both times for me it has settled down and I hardly ever get leaking anymore (DD is 10 months). I think it varies for everyone, but it's very common in the early stages.

A few weeks after DS started sleeping through my boobs stopped leaking. That was at about 3mths. Up until then yes I wore a bra with breastpads to bed. Same with DD as well. When DS feeds and I'm fairly full I will leak on the other boob when I get let down. But not nearly as much as I used to.
Tip: If you push your nipple in while getting let down it stops it from leaking, that's if you're not in public - that would look a bit strange This post has been edited by hollysmama: 10/12/2012, 03:50 PM |

Sorry for the ignorance, I assumed my letdown would necessitate a bra and breast pads as long as I'm breastfeeding, are you saying that some women stop leaking altogether after a while? When did this happen for you?
My LO is almost 10weeks and I leak if she reaches the 4hour mark between feeds and with my letdown in the morning, I can collect 20-30mL, plus milk runs out if bub comes off (in fact, milk gets everywhere generally, at the moment). |

I have a big supply of milk and a strong let down. I stopped leaking at around 12 weeks which coincided with the let down 'pains' subsiding.
I will occasionally now still get 'that feeling' (at 4 months) and then spend the next ten minutes paranoid that I'm going to have big leaky patches on my t shirt lol but it is only a drop or two now. |

I only leak a bit. Settled down after about 5 weeks. Now, if i am we aring a bra, i dont leak with let down. If i am wearing pyjamas and no bra, i leak with let down.
Only if hes slept a really long time do i wake up in a puddle. If i wer a bra to bed i am guaranted to get blocked ducts and once got mastitis from this. Drying myself after a shower i seem guaranteed to leak these days, something bout the stimulaton of the towel and being nice and warm and relaxed. If im not careful, i need another shower and to mop the floor! |

I never leaked.
But, the pain of let down never stopped for me either. Really, everyone is different, and each person has to find out what her own body is going to do... |
