Baby #3 is due in June and we pretty much have names picked out, however if this baby is a boy, I am considering using my maiden name as a middle name (or second middle name). Luckily my maiden name is a simple four letter actual boys name (just spelled slightly differently, I'll use John below as an example) so I think it would work pretty well, although DH doesn't like it much.

Has anyone else used their maiden name for a child?
And, what are your thoughts on two middle names vs. one? Good idea or a pain?

The options would be:

Frederick William *John* M--------

Or

Frederick *John* M--------

Is the double middle name too long? Our surname is an easy one but 3 syllables. Problem is William is a family name on both sides that we love too. Hmmmm........

I think that would be fine either way, especially since your maiden name only has one syllable.
This is a lovely idea, I intend to do something similar with my mother's maiden name when I have a child (and her's is an odd Dutch name!)

Good question because I have a maiden name that would be useable as a boy's middle name. I think I'd go for it, if it went with the other name/s I'd picked out. I'm an only child so it would be nice.

I prefer only one middle name but I don't think two would be too much of a problem. They rarely get used in real life original.gif

My kids all have two middle names.... One from each side of the family.

Day to day they are known as first last name.

I have a double barrel surname (kept maiden name and added married name) but also day to day go by first last.

I would.

A second name is generally not used. Just on official forms usually. Unless of course your son really likes it and uses it as his first name.

My husband is Portuguese and the first male always has his mothers maiden name as his middle name.

My kids also have two middle names, one being my surname. It's not a short one either. I think your idea is fine, either way.

Both my sons have my maiden name as their middle names. There is no way I would not have given them my name is some way. My maiden name is used as a surname and also a first name for male or females so it fit in whatever gender anyway.

It is also a Scottish naming tradition for the first male to have his mothers maiden name as his middle name. Has certainly helped us in tracing our family tree!

Remember you are unique...just like everyone else!
My kids have two middle names with one being my maiden name - that was the compromise instead of a hyphenated surname.
