This is just tragic. That stupid prank call has left two children without their mother.

I have flame suit on...
She left her kids without a mother. It's very sad for her family. But the hoax call didn't kill her she did that all on her own.
I would say there was more going on in her life.

Agree with PP. I don't think it's fair to lay blame on two people making a prank call.

Agree with Green Door. It is tragic but I do not think anyone would have expected this outcome from a prank call...

But sometimes there is just a final stressor that pushes people over the edge. Prank callers know that they do cause stress in the recipient- they just think it is funny. I think the prank callers should have hung up when they got put through to the duty nurse- they had no business taking the hoax further.

"Many Britons have responded to the news with anger, a Facebook tribute site set up almost immediately after the news broke showing posts calling for the sackings and prosecutions of the DJs."

That's insane. Prosecute them for what? They did not kill this woman. They played a joke. They were not to know that she was so fragile that she would take her own life over it. Nobody could reasonably expect such a thing.

Not that I'm defending the prank call as such. I think prank calls are an extremely juvenile form of humour and I really wish radio stations would get over them.

Oh that is just awful.
I can't stand prank calls as humour - I freely admit this 'unaustralian' opinion that they're completely unfunny, juvenile, without wit and can be downright nasty. As for prank calling a Hospital - you know, those understaffed places of the sick and dying - I have no words. The switchboard really dropped the ball and put the damn call through to this nurse who thought she was doing the right thing. She was absolutely humiliated, publicly berated and would have feared for job.
**** that's sad

I think it might be hard to imagine the public humiliation this woman would have felt, let alone fearing for her job. It would be a massively sensitive issue in a private hospital that is treating royalty - not like the US hospitals that regularly seem to leak "celebrity gossip".

But even if there were other things going on, who is to say that this wasn't the tipping point. I agree that prank calls are juvenile, but what I can't understand is that their legal advisers approved the segment. Surely at the very least they should have realised that someone's livelihood might have been risked?

Just to clarify - the nurse who died is the one took the call on reception, not the one who passed out the information.

I agree, I think prank calling a hospital to invade a patients privacy is/was a very poor call.

when making the call I bet they didn't think they would get that far. it is tragic that it ended ths way but I don't think it's directly the dj s fault
