We are going on a holiday for a week with 5 families this summer, total 20 people 10 adults and 10 kids. We are sharing one enormous house. Several kids will share one big rumpus room for sleeping, younger kids will sleep in with parents, some in beds, some in portacots. Some bedrooms are bigger than others/have ensuite. Total cost is $8500.

How would you split the cost?

- per person
- per person weighted for adult/child
- per bedroom
- per bed
- additional cost for bigger rooms
- split equally between families (some families have 2 members, some have 5)
- another way?

So far we are leaning towards a split per person (with a weighting of 1 for an adult and 0.5 for a child) and adding a loading for bigger rooms.

With that mix I'd look at per family.

Though that wouldn't be fair with a family of 2 or 3 subsidising a family of 8.

I think the way you are doing it is good. Per person but a child doesn't equal a full person. Maybe under 6 months equals free? But def not per family, as a family of two I wouldn't want to pay more then a family with three kids. Also an extra loading for the bigger rooms seems fair to me.

Pay per adult and don't count kids. Easiest way with that many people.

I would do this but without the loading for bigger rooms. Just do it per adult and per child.

It isn't fair for a couple to pay the same as a 5 member family IMO but I think increasing prices for room size is just making it too difficult.

How is the accommodation charging you? PP or an overall cost? If overall then I would do per family. It could get messy otherwise.

Per family. I think anything else just gets too difficult and too confusing and opens things up for people to argue (does an older child in their teens count as an adult or a kid, do kids sharing the parents room count if they are using their own portacot etc etc etc). I think splitting it equally between all 5 families is fair. Everyone will have different experiences with kids sharing rooms with them or kids in with other kids etc and any bathrooms will always be shared regardless of ensures etc, from previous experience with a similar holiday. I think with that many families it is expected that ensuites are open slather for all. I think most would expect for a split between all families. An personal,y if someone was going to have a whinge about this aspect of the holiday I would be pretty unwilling to want to holiday with them actually. Good luck with the holiday. Hope it goes smoothly. With that many people it will certainly be busy and never with a bored moment
