Our 4yo kinder teacher is leaving and I'm on the committee who will be interviewing for the position.

I've read up on the EYLF and national framework which I think are vital.

Apart from the basic interview question (strengths / weaknesses / conflict resolution etc) plus asking about their teaching philosophies and ideas for incorporating additional hours (we are in Vic and moving to 15 hours in 2013), is there anything else we should be probing a potential candidate?

Experience handling difficult demanding parents, and ask them to bring examples of their programs, hope that helps

I would ask them to talk about the benefits of play based learning and their strategies for school readiness. Behaviour management techniques is possibly another area I'd want to know more about.

I am the Vice President on our Kinder Committee, and we also recently employed a new kindergarten teacher. Are you members of KPV (Kindergarten parents Victoria) they will be able to give you some sample questions that you can use. I will have a hunt around for the questions we used and PM them to you...if I can find them

First thing that came to mind: Strategies when working with special needs. Ask specific questions : when you were in a situation when a child with ( name special needs area ) did .... ( name scenario) how did you act in the short term and long term to help/ deal.In general:
Ask for details with specific scenarios that she / he should have had experience with and ask how they managed them. I would be interested in their perspective on play - based learning, as others have posted.
