Hi, Dh and i have sadly had another m/c, but are still hoping to try for one more in the near future. My gyno has recommended to take a multivitamin to help conceive, not that we've had any trouble with that. I went to the chemist today and bought a swisse ultravite multivitamin i think its called for women, and also one for men, for Dh. Has anyone ever taken these before, are they alright?

I like this brand, DH and I both take them. They've got good levels of folic acid and no vitamin A so are good for early pregnancy also.

Useful info, thanks for starting this thread! Before starting TTC, I was taking a Women's multivitamin, but stopped when we decided to start TTC.

I'm now taking folate, but not a multi.

Just wondering what everyone else is using while TTC? I have a bit of a concoction, all of which I was taking prior, apart from the folate:
  • Folate
  • Magnesium
  • Fish Oil
  • Vitamin C

I sometimes take Echinacea too, but I've run out since we started TTC, so not sure I'll start that again.

Have looked into the ones I am taking to see what is safe - but will look more closely at the quantities & brands when I get a BFP to make sure I'm not taking anything I shouldn't. Magnesium recommends seeking Dr's advice, while fish oil depends on what part of the fish it comes from?

Anyway, big ramble over - what does everyone else take in regards to vitamins?

I take Folate only, however this is on Dr's advice. Iodine was the other supplement recomended to me - but i am intollerant to it.

Iron supplements are also good, but only if you are deficient to begin with - so see if you can get a blood test to check this out.

I also know you need to be mindful of the amount of vitamin A supplements taken.

Plese see a trained professional (eg naturopath) who will recommend the best combination to take. A lot of chemist/supermarket options are not optimal. You also want to make sure you take a targeted approach so some testing for deficiencies may be in order first.

I quite liked Blackmore's Conceive Well Gold.

The Swiss women's multivitamin (that you have) is also a good option as it has the recommended dose of folic acid

Thanks for youre replies, yes it think that swisse is a good brand and seems to have most things in it. I might check with my Gp next time i see him and see if that's what he would recommend for me. My iron levels in the past have been abit low, so i was taking supplement iron tablets for that, ferrograd (red tablets), but found them not very nice.

Thank god i dont hav to take them now, i got to switch to a pregnancy multi last week original.gif I hav heard good reveiws from people taking swisse womens multi, i take the sleep and mood and theyve both helped.

I take the Swisse Pregnancy/Prepregnancy/Bfeeding multi along with Vit D (bloods said I was deficient) and fish oil tablets. I find the Swisse brand taste heaps better than some and also like that you only have to take 1 tablet each day.

Just make sure the multi you're taking is recommended during pregnancy because as previously stated Vit A can cause birth defects so do be careful.
